Rasheem Morris and Steve Spagnuolo already fired.
Are Rex Ryan and Norv Turner next?
You are right in that it took a few years for Jones to run the franchise into the ground.
Jones made one good hire: Jimmy Johnson, who managed to stand up to him for five years. With QB Troy Aikman, whom Tom Landry had selected before Jones booted him, Johnson won two Super Bowls and then quit in disgust.
Barry Switzer lasted two years and won a Super Bowl. It’s been a mess ever since, with Jones calling all the shots.
Just telling it like it is. I live in the shadow of JerryWorld and have watched the whole saga play out.
And, Vic, sorry to disappoint you, but I’m not a Cowboys fan, just a local observer. I’m interested in history and in business, and that’s all this is.
I hear they lost last night, but I really don’t care.
I’ll give you that. Garrett was a wrong hire. Jerry got bitten for trying to give a guy a shot. Just gave the wrong guy the shot.
The guys playing on the field and calling the plays are at fault too. But who hired all them? Jones has been GM of the team for 22 years. The first 6 years went well, got a bunch of rings. The 16 since then they’re a 500 team. How many GMs get to stay GMs for over a decade with a record hovering around 500? If Jones was paying somebody to be a GM and they put together the record he has do you think he’d fire that guy? Sure there’s lots of people who failed to put that record together, and the one thing they all share is Jones put them in that position.
I actually miss Barry Switzer, I think he got a bum rap in Dallas, largely because of his strained relationship with Troy Aikman, that went all the way back to when Troy was at OU. I always make sure to tune into The Ticket when Barry is on.
The press might have sympathized with the Colts after Manning got hurt, but apparently ownership did not:
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/01/02/colts-clean-house-polians-are-out/
Colts Vice Chairman Bill Polian and his son G.M. Chris Polian are out in Indianapolis, according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN.
Theres no official word yet on coach Jim Caldwell. (UPDATE 2:59 p.m. ET: No decision has been made yet on Caldwell, according to Bob Kravitz of the Indianapolis Star.)
Jerry only seems to be at fault by Cowboy fans when the team loses. I know a lot of CBF were happy when Garrett got the job. But since he can’t seem to perform on the sidelines like his QB can’t on the field, we have to blame someone. It’s Jerry’s fault when they lose and coach’s doing when they win. Now that makes bandwagon cowboy fan sense.
I’m not a Cowboys fan. And he IS at fault. Since winning the SB they’re total record (including playoffs) is 132-133. There’s one guy there for than entire 16 years of mediocrity, there’s one guy that hired all those coaches, one guy that drafted all those players, one guy that pulled in all the undrafted players, one guy that made all the trades.
One particular game, even one particular season it might not be Jones (though remember whoever did screw up was hired by Jones). But for 16 years of that how can it possibly be anybody else’s fault.
WOW!
I’d be surprised if Caldwell is gone, unless Indy has somebody specific in mind.
What about Lovie in Chicago?
I think Fisher is going to Tampa.
Not actually terribly shocked. They were horrible without Manning. And that’s just not acceptable. All the way back in September Sanders was asking in the post game on NFL Network how the team could be that shallow that with just one guy out they sunk that low. What were the Polians doing to ensure the success of the team after their 35 year old QB left the game, apparently not much.
He’s at fault for taking the advice of some of his coaches including Bill Parcells. Jones should have gotten rid of Romo when he had his chance. Rob Ryan was a great get. LOL. They have a lot of talent just no coaches to coach and motivate.
Just looked like they were holding back Tebow, he can run. He stayed in the pocket alot. Was that his fault, I dont know? Im just a Tebow fan and want him to succeed. Honestly, first game I saw entirely of his. NOT GOOD. Broncos arent that good :(
I think Caldwell is gone, if only because he’s a remainder of the Polian era which has now been declared insufficient for the future. That and let’s face it he’s just not that good a coach.
I think Lovie is out, possibly with Angelo (for basically the same reason the Polians got ousted). I think they have to fire Gailey (you just can’t start 5-0 and finish 6-10). Turner, Shanahan, maybe Reid. Carroll, Whisenhunt. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Garrett out, yeah Jones said he was safe last week, he said Phillips was safe 2 weeks before firing him too.
And I think the new hires are going to be old guys. There’s been a youth movement in coaching lately, but too many of these young guys are not cutting the muster in dramatic fashion. Fisher, Cowher, Gruden, maybe even Mooch will all be at least invited for interviews. Depending on how many want to come back there could be a serious bidding war.
I think the Broncos can make a game of it.
Just remember what happened last year when 7-9 Seattle got in. Saints fans would like to forget, I’m sure.
Coaches that he hired.
132-133
Show me a GM that wasn’t also an owner that was allowed to put together a record like that. Jones is a bad GM, the facts are in.
I think Garrett will stay as Head Coach, but they have to bring in an Offensive Coordinator, Norv Turner would be perfect.
Id like to have a Bill Cower (sp) or a Mike Singletary type of coach in Dallas. Our team is NOT disciplined and/ are NOT mentally tough. They need an ass kicker
That was the Chiefs defense. They were maintaining contain. The key to going after a scrambling QB is lane discipline, don’t over pursue, trust the other rushers to do their job and be ready in case he reverse field and comes back to you. That takes care of his run, forces him to lead with his arm, put your secondary tight man coverage and trust that he doesn’t have the accuracy, 7 of 22 says he doesn’t.
Tebow is a nice guy but currently he’s not a good QB.
Jerry won’t stand for it. He wants a puppet, I think he was genuinely upset when Parcells went 10-6 his first year, with Quincy Frickin’ Carter at QB, because it disproved his theory that anybody can coach, and from that point on, he tried to undermine Parcells.
Give Tebow a Percy Harvin, like he had at Florida, and I guarantee he will be much more effective.
