We got a shep pup at 6 wks. He seems docile and very even-tempered but we have our house fenced all around and we never get robbed. He looks pretty mean when strangers approach. I have a 7 yr. old and 15 yr. old daughter. He loves to track shadows, birds, butterflys,etc..never shown any aggression toward us.We had a professional trainer check out his temperment. First dog I ever got. I hope my Shep does not turn on us as you describe....
I never said that Sheppard’s don’t bite. Some of them do. But if you bring it up with love then it most certainly will never bite you or your family. They are very loyal at protecting family.
I think GSD’s are beautiful and if it weren’t for my previous experiences with them I would have one. The pup that bit me came from a breeder and they called him a German Police. I’ve heard that term before but I think they are all GSD’s. My concern then was my two-year-old daughter. If it had been just me I would have worked with him but I know that most times if a dog is showing aggression that young that it will be very hard to ever trust it. I’ve worked with dogs all my life and have learned that some aggressive traits are genetic. I wouldn’t trust them with a small child. It’s not a breed thing but more of a genetic issue with some dogs. If it’s bad training a good trainer can help but if it’s genetic there isn’t much that can be done. Dogs like that should not be bred.
