ORANGE CITY, Fla.- Authorities in Florida said a man who awoke to the sound of his dog barking grabbed a gun from beneath his pillow and accidentally shot himself in the arm.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office said John Ebberts of 16th Street, near Orange City, told officers his dog woke him up by barking at 2:32 a.m. and he apparently accidentally hit the trigger while pulling his Bond Arms Snake Slayer .410 shotshell/.45 Colt derringer from beneath his pillow, The Daytona Beach News-Journal reported Thursday.
Ebberts shot himself in the left forearm with a .410 shotshell. He was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach by EVAC ambulance for treatment.
Is it "OK" because it chambers a .45?
Commander? Hammer should be back and that little thingy on the left in the up position. ;-)
If the pic is of the right gun, it's not a revolver. It's more akin to a derringer. Although, it's the first derringer I have seen with a trigger guard, not a bad idea though. Derringers are typically single action which means this dude was either sleeping with a cocked gun under his pillow or he inadvertently set it off while cocking it. Dumb acts both....
Nice conversation piece but that is about it. Look at that hammer! Ready made to snag on just about anything.
.38 special revolver would be a much better choice for a small piece if that is what the owner was looking for.

Do you know if that thing fires rimless ACP’s or is it the same ammo as the .45 revolver? Must be a nasty little thing to shoot. Both hands needed. Probably can’t hit jack squat with it greater than a few yards but is will scare the bejeezus out of ‘em.
Or marshmallows!
You are right. We sleep with 4 dogs in our room, no one is going to sneak up on us. The smallest one (15 lbs) wakes up and barks when a car pulls up in front of the house. This morning a bird bounced off the window and they all went nuts.
Sounds like a Rule 3 violation to me.
Nice gun, but he’s still an idiot. Darwin almost got him.
I’m with you on the .38. And I am not putting it under my pillow...even though it is hammerless. My dogs will give me plenty of time to put my hands on it!
Hammerless is good. I was going to recommend that to the guy who posted a week or two ago who was looking for something other than his big .40 for CCW and was thinking .380.
I think these days people simply forget about wheelguns as a viable option for a small, light, convenient piece, especially 2-3” .38s
Have you got all the stuffing up one end?
