Scuffles have broken out between rival groups of Greek Orthodox and Armenian clerics in a turf war at Bethlehem's Church of the Nativity.
Bemused tourists looked on as about 100 priests fought with brooms while cleaning the church in preparation for Orthodox Christmas, on 7 January.
Palestinian police armed with batons and shields broke up the clashes.
Groups of priests have clashed before in the church, built on the spot where Christians believe Jesus was born.
"It was a trivial problem that... occurs every year," Bethlehem police Lt-Col Khaled al-Tamimi told Reuters.

Shameful! I have read about it for years.
Even non Christians are offended about how a revered Christian church is treated by these priests.
I had a Muslim “palestinian” tell me that these priests were bringing shame on “imam” Jesus
I told him to mind his own business.. but internally the jab hurt...
Sounds like a job for "get 'er done" protestants as usual.
I love it!
Whomever says that we, as Christians, don’t have any fight in us is wrong!
They are just emulating Saint Nick, who punched Arius at the Council of Nicaea.
Stupid BBC which doesn't know anything about the subject since none of them are religious. I could not see a single thing to indicate Armenian or Orthodox priests were involved in the clash. The only thing you could tell is that they are monastics.
Stupid BBC anti Christian reporters at it again!

God forbid!
Last time I checked, Protestants don’t have “monastic orders”
Just to be clear, these “priests” are helpless victims when a juvenile delinquent Jewish religious school student spits on one every few years, which, according to some FReepers, is a reason for Jew-hate.
Keep telling yourself that. It’s a lie.
Exactly.
