Oddly, this was the first Mercedes I ever sat in. They weren’t that valuable in the late 70’s. Nice, but could be bought by those only slightly well off.
The next MB I sat in was my own SL!

The most exotic thing I ever owned was a ‘66 Formula S Barracuda. I've always had a jones for an SL. The one I drove was owned by a pretty average guy a couple of blocks from my college dorm in ‘74. I had talked to him a couple of times and just happened to be walking by when he was leaving one day. He offered me a ride and then let me drive it back. Very nice guy, I hope he still had it when it got seriously valuable!

I saw a similar setup on a BMW convertible, 2001 in Italy. Guy was staying at the same hotel as we were and the car was parked in front. The car was a 2 seater and the doors slid right into the body.
