We installed remote read water meters in the system I operate. The signal put out by these things is teeny! It’s a meter that’s connected to a small transmitter mounted outside. It can be read by a guy driving down the street. It used to take me 3 days to read the meters, now it takes 3 hours. These signals are so low level, I don’t see how anyone could feel any effects from them. Except hypochondriacs, like my Sister.
How likely is it that someone with a technical background in wireless could ‘spoof’ the signals and produce a false reading to the device ‘reading’ the meters? I’m SURE they have to use a layer of encryption with the system somewhere.
PG&E Smartmeters are 1 watt output cellular band (electric meters) and about .8 watt for gas meters...they have to transmit to a cell tower or neighborhood receiver (no meter readers or trucks driving around). Probably no health effects, but I am thinking of putting a Faraday Cage around the side to deflect the RF coming into the living area of my home...mostly just to mess with PG&E...they haven’t been the same since AB1890 & the bankruptcy. Management is fully stocked with “greenies’ now.
