Junk silver. These are silver money - dollars, half-dollars, quarters and dimes - minted pre-1964. Coin silver is 90% silver and you can usually buy it in coin stores or precious metal dealers - the people who sell 24K gold Krugerrand and Maple Leaf coins.

It is possible to buy silver bullion in one ounce rounds, but those are NOT money and you cannot go into a business and use them as such.

Junk silver would probably work well for you.

Do you know any sites? I was just about. To buy a few 10 oz bars from a website called Amex or something like that which has high ratings. I don’t want to get ripped off.

DITTO. If you look at SHTF worst scenario food, water, extra meds, guns and ammo are first. Prec metals in the form of junk silver is one of the best ways for barter. Dimes, quarters, and half dollars are good. Get some gold just in case you must flee US to Canada or overseas. Never forget passport.
I prep. But I assume bank holiday and currency reset similar to Mexico, Argentina, Serbia. Prec metals is basically to protect purchasing power, while food is to hold one over for about six months and guns for protection when cops are no longer paid. Gov probably declare emergency, food is rationed while banks are closed and dollars are reset to a new value.
If bankers and Fed Reserve manages this crisis it will be gradual inflation to inflate debt away while middle class savers will be destroyed as purchasing power of dollar erodes. Trick is to have precious metals to preserve buying power.

Yep. Junk silver has ALL kinds of advantages...

1) It is currency, created by the US government.
2) Not likely to be counterfeited, since it in such small amounts.
3) Probably in your neighborhood at the antique store at reasonable prices
4) If you can buy it locally, you can often pay less, due to no shipping costs.
5) Inconspicuous, as it looks like ordinary change if you get the stuff that was made right before they quit making it out of silver.
6) Easy to price and buy. Go to coinflation.com and look up the values. It is updated in real time, so the price you get will be up to the minute. Print out your values and take them with you when you buy.

You might pay a little over the value you see on Coinflation, but considering you have no shipping, if your state sales tax is zero or reasonable, you can get the most bang for your buck that way.
