Vanity: Chrissie Hynde's vegan restaurant closes ("economy")
The Vegiteerranean ^ | 12/15/11 | raccoonradio

So I'm on a radio discussion board and people are bringing up Rush's use of My City Was Gone (lyrics etc). I pointed out that the Pretenders' Chrissie Hynde owned a restaurant in Akron. Oops, past tense: (Oct 2011) "It is with great regret that The Vegiterranean in downtown Akron has closed its doors for the last time. This has been a labour of love for me for the last four years. We tried everything we could to keep the restaurant going but unfortunately due to the current economic climate this has not been possible...Your friend, Chrissie Hynde"

I had been in Akron earlier in the year and a friend took me to a great Italian eatery, Luigi's; he said it was right around the corner from Hynde's eatery (he'd heard THAT place wasn't too hot). Who knows, maybe the vegan food tasted more rubbery than Firestone or Goodyear products. This is the woman who once said on stage, "Are we at war yet? Bring it on, I hope the Muslims win! Down with the economic s--- this country represents!"

Maybe Obama was going to change it all, though. Maybe there would be hope for her, as a business owner. But...it was not to be. As far as I know, Luigi's (salad, sausage pizza, beer) is open and has been since the 1940s I believe.

Ha! Howie Carr picked up this item from me! Reading it right now. Playing the “violin” sad music. “Maybe you should have served some ribs, Chrissie!”

I haven’t visited a more depressed place than Akron.

You're in Missouri? Just go to St. Louis and if that's not bad enough, cross the river over into East St. Louis, Illinois. A lot closer to you than Akron.

Somebody mentioned that Rush has an agreement with her to donate the royaltys to PETA.

East St. Louis has always been bad to awful.
Akron was once a beautiful city. Last time I was there, it looked a like a neutron bomb had gone off.

Never been to Detroit, I see.

In the early years Rush would always credit the song to Chrissie by saying, “Just looking at her you KNOW she’s the kind of woman from whom you would catch a social disease—but you’d go ahead and do it anyway!”

Classic.

Many times. I sold heavy oil to the Ford steamship fleet.
I also called on Ford at the Rouge.

Front woman / vocalist for a pretty good rock and roll band called The Pretenders. Had several good hits in the late 70s and early 80s.

>>Jones said lack of business was not the root cause of the closing.

If you put Chrissy Hynde, Pat Benatar, and Joan Jett in the same room, I wouldn’t be able to tell you who’s who.

Okay, that's a funny visual image. I'll help you out, though. You will trip over Pat Benatar, but she'll blow your eardrums out with her voice. Chrissy would most likely be the ugliest, most unhealthy looking. That leaves Joan Jett, I dunno. She may still wear leather.

She’s lived in England since 1971. I don’t know why she’s so involved with politics here.
