Because the horses were being sent to Mexico to be slaughtered.
The conditions prior to slaughter in Mexico are quite inhumane.
Horse slaughter is abhorrent, but if it’s going to happen, better that it happen humanely (oxymoron) in the U.S. rather than Mexico.
Wanting to be more like France? Europe?
Yes, he did make that promise. But, as we ALSO know, president Barack Obama is a shameless liar.
He thinks he can soften us up for dog slaughter and consumption, which will help soften us up for handicapped and elderly extermination and soylent green.
Clears the way for horsemeat to be halal.
Because it is the will of Allah and the holy prophet?
No such critters.
Because horse herd populations on “public lands” grows at about 17% per year.
This means that the herd sizes double in about five years.
The BLM has regulations on range management that limit the number of horses in any particular HMA (horse management area), what is known as the “AML” - adjudicated management limit.
Right now, the irrational horse advocates, many of whom are highly emotional women, prevent the BLM from doing regular gathers to bring the HMA’s down to AML until the number of horses in a HMA is so high that they’re looking at an emergent situation. So the BLM then does an “emergency gather,” which can get them around the silliness of public hearings on the issue of a gather, which are typically populated with sackcloth-and-ashes females, many of whom then file legal nuisance suits to prevent the BLM from going forward with a non-emergent gather.
The BLM has had a policy of adopting the horses out, but as I told Bob Abbey (now director of the BLM) when he was state director of BLM in Nevada, there aren’t enough horse-besotted females, nor deep enough pockets of people in the private sector, to adopt out all the mustangs that are gathered. So the BLM has, for the last 10 years or so, had a policy of placing the excess horses into “pasturing” contracts, wherein the horses are put onto private lands (many times, in places like Oklahoma) at public expense (of about $3/head/day or thereabouts) and then shuffled from private contractor to private contractor as they attempt to underbid each other to pasture these horses.
The bottom line is this: Mustangs don’t have natural predators. The public lands on which they reside (50% of mustangs are located in Nevada) are insufficient to support the populations, period. For those who would contest this, you need to get your eyeballs out to the ranges in question and look at the range conditions where over-AML numbers of horses reside, and you will see ranges pounded into dust, water springs mashed into mudholes, etc.
People need to stop being emotional about this issue. There are simply too many horses on public lands, period, full stop, thanks for playing. The question then becomes “What will be done with the excess horses?” We’re broke as a nation, we can’t afford to pay to pasture an ever-increasing number of horses on private lands. The BLM’s wild horse & burro management powers include euthanasia and that option needs to be used once again. Get the worst of the genetic mistakes (the hammerheads, etc) out of the herds and put them down, then keep only the best genetics in the herds.
Maybe because he is very near a babbling imbecile, but not quite. Banning horse slaughter made about as much sense as banning chicken slaughter.
Horses are expensive pets and too many who had them can no longer take care of them. They used to be sold for meat and killed humanely and then the meat exported. Now there are more abandoned horses starving.
Reauthorizing horse slaughter prevents animals being left to starve, creates a few more jobs and restores a market that was exporting millions of dollars worth of canned meat.
Moochelle was getting tired of kobe beef and lobster?
Don’t EAT the Horses!!!
You’ll NEED them for transportation in “Bath-House” Barry’s ObamaNation!!!!
Before the ban I know that horses were exported from Sea-Tac Airport on Asiana airlines to be slaughtered in, I assume, South Korea. Maybe they like it better than dog!
This is about the only thing i agree on that zero has done to date. The ban put in place about 5 years ago just stopped slaughter in the US. Horse’s were still SOLD for slaughter here, but are being shipped to Mexico or Canada. These animals were crammed into trucks and traveled sometimes days without food or water. By lifting the ban the end result is the same, but a more humane way of handling it.
It is no more wrong to kill horses for food than it is cows. Since we happen to like horses more than cows many people find it repulsive but the truth is, it isn’t.
Because by the time he get’s done ruining this country this is all we will be eating.
After he ruins the US economy and regulates food out of production there won’t be much left.
I guess people can eat horsemeat....well, except for Himself and Moochelle and the commie elite. They will eat wagyu beef and lobster.
