If it's a quiet life you are after or you are worried about the end of the world, this underground bunker could be answer to your dreams. It's nuclear and biochemically bomb proof and has enough room for an army. In fact, this Cold War missile silo was once owned by the U.S. military. Today the 185-acre site which cost $18 million to build back in the Fifties is for sale at $1.72 million (£1.1m).
It is owned by cousins and business partners Bruce Francisco and Gregory Gibbons who bought the base in Saranac, upstate New York, in 1991 and lovingly restored it.
Sixty years ago, hundreds of Atlas-F missile silos were built across the U.S. in the event of a thermonuclear war with Russia.

Great pictures at link -- I don't know if they're getty or not, so I didn't post them.
Most potential buyers would no doubt prefer that the site hadn’t been described in detail in a major newspaper.
$1.7 Million huh? That sounds like a good investment for when I win the lottery..... Esp. if Barry wins a second term in 2012(GOD FORBID!) Gold, Guns, Food and Free Republic....LOL!
He asked me "What do you think is going on up there? I mean, do you think those guys were there to protect the place from black bears?"
I said, "It sounds like a secure compound for the very rich to retreat to when society collapses."
He nodded his head and said, "That's exactly what I thought."
Not bad, if you can afford it. I don’t know if I’d trust work-for-pay security guards though, in a SHTF scenario.
Hidden entrance? Not after all the workmen, manual labor college kids, national headlines, and lookie-loos posed as buyers. I’d love to have one of those but would never advertise it or put access to it on the market.
You'd better bring their families in and give the guards some equity and security in the setup.
