Republicans vs. Democrats TV survey results: Lefties want comedy, right wingers like work
EW ^ | 12-6-2011 | James Hibberd

Republicans don’t watch MTV’s Jersey Shore. But they dig ABC’s Castle.

Democrats don’t like Discovery’s Deadliest Catch. But they swoon for NBC’s Parks and Recreation.

...

In the findings, “sarcastic” media-savvy comedies and morally murky antiheroes tend to draw Dems. While serious work-centered shows (both reality shows and stylized scripted procedurals), along with reality competitions, tend to draw conservatives...

LIBERAL-DEMOCRAT FAVORITES: – The Daily Show With Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report (Comedy Central): As you might expect. – 30 Rock and Parks and Recreation (NBC): Literate media-savvy comedies score high among Dems in general, notes Experian-Simmons senior marketing manager John Fetto. “Sarcastic humor is always a hook for them,” he adds. – The View (ABC): Shows that skew female tend to do better among Dems, while male-friendly shows tend to do perform higher among Republicans. – Glee (Fox) – Modern Family (ABC): Last year, the progressive Glee and Modern Family scored surprisingly strong among both political leanings. Among conservatives this year, the shows still do fairly well, but have dropped out of their top ranks. – It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (FX) ...

Also in the mix: The Soup (E!), Aqua Teen Hunger Force (Adult Swim), Raising Hope (Fox), Saturday Night Live (NBC), The Office (NBC), Project Runway (Lifetime), Shameless (Showtime), Parenthood (NBC), Conan (TBS).

CONSERVATIVE-REPUBLICAN FAVORITES: – Swamp Loggers (Discovery) and Top Shot (History): Gritty documentary-style work-related reality shows on cable index really strongly with conservative Republicans. Swamp Loggers is particularly polarizing. – The Bachelor (ABC): They also tend to gravitate toward broadcast reality competition shows. – Castle (ABC): Ranks fairly high among Dems, too. – Mythbusters (Discovery) – Only in America With Larry the Cable Guy, American Pickers, Pawn Stars, Swamp People (History): If you’re a Republican candidate looking to raise money, put ads on History. ...

Liberals = Children

Conservatives = Adults

I would like to tie down a lib, super glue their eyes open, and make the watch a “Sons of Guns” marathon, just to see how long it take for their brain to explode...

“The Soup” going liberal is sad. Joel McHale used to roundly mock the social depravity of the left. Now, he just makes lame pot shots at Sarah Palin.

Television hasn't been very good since the plug was pulled on the Nashville Network back in 2000. Fortunately, GMC, the Gospel Music Channel has filled a void for wholesome, family entertainment.

Castle has to be one of the best shows on network TV. Probably the only next to Person of Interest. Nathan Fillion is funny and Stana Katic is smokin' hot. The plots are good too.

Frankly, I think Republicans prefer reality TV shows and police procedurals that don’t inject liberalism into everything.

There could be simpler explanation : Republicans identify with the world of work and reality. Democrats identify with the world of fantasy.

It would seem that the Rats prefer the sissy-boy shows while the right gravitates toward manly-man shows-shocking!

I also notice libtards tend to like shows better which air later at night. Maybe because conservatives have to get up and go to work the next morning.

I’ll tell you if I never see another cop show I’d be a happy man. seriously we are swamped with cop and cop-type shows. WTHH?

In new release and reruns. Criminal Minds. Cold Case. Da Vinci’s Inquest. Law and Order in all it’s incarnations. NCIS. I mean, crap on toast, enough “gung-ho law enforcement” shows.

My bet is that Republicans /conservatives don’t watch network TV, period. While I may occasionally follow a particular show (one every two or three years), I haven’t watched network TV on a regular basis in probably 20 years.

I don’t think the title is quite accurate.

I love comedy. I’ve been a fan of Bill Cosby my whole life. Larry the Cable Guy is funny, and there are quite a few other funny people out there.

Most of the “comedy” that appeals to liberals is not even remotely funny. Mostly, it’s just mean-spiritedness, liberals trying to vie with each other about who can say the cruelest things about people who are mostly just trying to live and let live.

That fits me. I don’t recognize any more than a couple of the named shows (conservative OR liberal favorites)-except for a couple. Even then, I’ve never watched them, only have heard them referred to by others.

Not a movie goer, either. However, I might make an effort to see two new ones that are coming out: “War Horse” and “The Iron Lady”.

Swamp Loggers is “polorizing”? That’s a strange statement.

Castle is the best show on TV. Did you watch Monday night’s episode?

Da Vinci’s Inquest.

I am guessing you are from Canada if you know that show. That show is a real bore. I caught a few episode from what seemed like 15 years old on late nite TV a little while back. Great for insomnia.

No. We usually catch up with it On Demand during the week. We watch Top Gear on BBC America or Hawaii 5-0 at that time. That pretty much puts us in the Right Wing demographic that the article cites. LOL.
