Whoa, Nelly! (14) Georgia 10 (1) LSU 7 at the half of SEC Championship

Posted on 12/03/2011 3:05:43 PM PST by Perdogg

Georgia leads LSU 10 to 7 at the end of the first half. LSU has no first downs and the score really should be 10-0 since the LSU player did not cross the goal line with the football.

The SEC West is tougher than the NFC North or AFC East....combined.

Rematch. Roll Tide.

To any impartial observer, this game should lay to rest the myth of the exalted status of the SEC.

This Harvard/University of Texas Graduate who has lived in PAC 12 land and now lives in SEC country (a) listens to SEC fans all year, and (b) then listens to all the Big 10 and PAC 12 fans boast about how the SEC is a myth.

Then I watch the SEC win the National Championship every year and generally kick butt in bowls. And I watch the Big 10 fans and PAC 12 walk away mumbling about a fluke and coming back just as cocky the next year about how the SEC is a myth, and I watch them walk away mumbling about a fluke with their tails between their legs the next year as the SEC wins the National Championship.

When are you guys going to come to grips with the truth like those of us from the Big 12? All of those PAC 12 and Big 10 graduates on ESPN who year-in and year-out say the SEC is the strongest conference in the nation know what they are talking about.

And as for the SEC record in bowls, for years they've been set up where the SEC gets a ton of teams. The result is you've got the SEC #5 and #6 teams playing the #2 team and #3 team from all of these other conferences. Yeah. And the SEC still has winning records in bowls.

Well put. A friend who is a Stanford grad always boasts how great the Pac 10 is and every year he has a reason why they didn't make it to the big dance.

Should have heard him ranting why The Cardinal lost to the ducks. Everyone's fault but the teams.

The one with the “best” team in the country can't get a first down for an entire HALF! The one where the quarterback of the “best” team in the country can't pass. The one where the other QB under throws or over throws all night, missing TD opportunities. The one where even if he's on the money, his receiver drops a sure TD pass three feet from the end zone or a strike IN the end zone. The one where the D backs drops interceptions thrown right to them. The one where a guy can throw the ball away for a touchback before you cross the goal and the replay ref still gives you a TD.

That one.

Check SC’s record all time against the SEC and then get back to me.

Why? If LSU had lost it might have knocked Ala. out of the NC game.

Georgia would have picked up the other automatic bid to the BCS bowl game.

Bama should have been rooting for LSU.

Should I leave out the years before the modern era, and the years when you were playing ineligible players, or count everything? And are we talking the entire conference, which was the point of this discussion, or are we now just cherry-picking teams for your benefit and not measuring the PAC 12 against the SEC?

You’ve got to be kidding. The Vikings would beat any SEC West team by three touchdowns. Any SEC West team would lose to the Patriots by at least 40.

Not to mention the Packers, Bears, Lions, Dolphins, Jets, and the Bills.

There is no doubt that year after year the SEC is the toughest conference in the nation. The LSU Tigers are the best team currently of the SEC, therefore they are the number one team in the nation. No doubt. The rematch between Bama and LSU will be one for the History books, and probably the most exciting low scoring game of this decade. Congrats on your Tigers winning the SEC Championship game.[I’m a Tide fan, if you hadn’t noticed.]

BTW, if Bama wins a rematch, it is my decades of football watching opinion that there should be a shared title of National Champion.

You need to calm down. It’s only a game.

LSU and USC had to share the Championship in 2003. Should have had the play for winner take all. So no sharing. Winner takes all even if it happens to be Bama.

Everyone is looking for LSU and Bama going at it.

Just have this silly feeling the Cowboys get in.

Money is on the rematch.

LSU better find some offense early, because if Bama takes the lead, they will keep the lead.

We will all have to wait till the BCS makes that selection.

Actually, any way you count it up SC has ripped the SEC.

Now if I may, let me get back to my original point, which is not that one conference is better than another. One could find all kinds of data to bolster any claim either way. For example, the Pac 12 has two of the only three schools have have never scheduled teams not in Div 1A (or whatever they’re calling it today). Or one could look at home and away scheduling for non conference, where the SEC loads up on home cookin’.

The point is that while there can be no arguing that the SEC has many fine teams, that’s not the same as the mythology that has arisen. The SEC is not the be all end end all of football. That was on display last night. LSU had 237 yards of total offense and was was 5 of 13 passing for 30 yards! That was not “SEC speed” on defense, that was “SEC ineptitude” on offense.

Now, another poster has written that “only Alabama can stop LSU” in the BCS title game. I know, I know who am I supposed to believe, SEC honks or my lying eyes?

“So why did you watch the game?”

I like football, duh! That and I was praying for Georgia to stave off a redo of the LSU/Bama snooze fest but it looks like we get the Do Over Bowl this time.
