ROSEVILLE (CBS13) A local man says the latest movie in the popular Twilight franchise triggered a seizure, and similar incidents have been reported in theaters around the country.
Brandon Gephart and Kelly Bauman said they were watching Breaking Dawn: Part One at a theater Friday night when Brandon sudden began convulsing during a graphic birthing scene.
Brandon said he doesnt remember anything until he woke up on the theater floor, but Kelly said he was, convulsing, snorting, trying to breathe.
He scared me big time, she added. Paramedics transported the man to the emergency room and the theater had to cancel the rest of the movie for that showing.
Several reports on internet movie sites show reports of other people suffering similar symptoms during the same scene, which contains flashes of red, black and white. Dr. Michael G. Chez, the medical director of pediatric neurology and epilepsy for Sutter Sacramento, said the reports indicate the scene may be triggering an episode of photosensitive epilepsy.

That could be it. Cobras do it best, it seems, the feeling is one of ‘I’m going to faint right this second if I don’t turn and run away from this customer’ all the while shaking my head like rat terrier to make the feeling go away.
I’m deeply ashamed I can’t engage that wonderful, loyal customer. But I avoid her as I can’t handle it, and I LOVE aircraft turbulence and rollercoasters, all that. Go figure.

Not prone to seizures but undiagnosed.
Nearly 700 Japanese children were affected.

Other reports say drunks have displayed jerky, chicken like behavior, causing several to break their front teeth out on beer bottles.
I refuse to watch it.

Flicker fits can be triggered while driving if the road divider is posts and not the solid concrete. That's one of the reasons they started doing away with post dividers and went to solid concrete in newer dividers...it can trigger a seizure in susceptible people... We had a patient in the hospital that had a sign on her bed, Do not jar bed.....it would send her into seizure activity. But she also said she knew when a seizure was coming on as she got an aura...some epilepics know when a seizure is coming on by seeing lights or other things that warn them....for others there is no warning...

I have never had a seizure (thank God), but watching certain kinds of scenes in movies or video games makes me very ill. Headache, nausea, and a very odd feeling in my head that is almost like a pressure band... like the normally soft brain tissue has hardened up like wax... really hard to explain, but very real and unpleasant. The quidditch scenes in the Harry Potter movies did that to me. I completely understand how movie scenes could cause a seizure.

not quite sure what you mean, i said prone because of its extremely short duration to elicit their reaction...

Rifftrax.com is the new business of Mike Nelson, Bill Corbett (Tom Servo), and Kevin Murphy (Crow), where they riff new movies. Just buy and download the mp3, put in your DVD, and follow the instructions to sync them up, and be ready to laugh your ass off.
The Twilight series is top notch, also Transformers, anything M. Night Shaymalan, and especially the really rotten new movies like The Room and Birdemic are totally awesome.

Reading the article, it says there are steps certain epileptics can take to avoid seizures:
The trouble with theaters, its dark, the lights flashing in there is more like a strobe light, he added.
A single seizure should not cause long-term damage to most patients, Dr. Chez said. Wearing sunglasses with cheap blue lenses can filter the red light for moviegoers who want to be on the safe side”
Obviously if someone hasn't been diagnosed with epilepsy yet,the precautions listed above wouldn't be known.I certainly didn't know how dangerous certain strobing lights would be to epileptics.
But if, as I believe is the case here, the man knew he was epileptic, then why did he ever go to a movie theater?

No actually I am not what you would call a fan. I see many movies and went to see this one..the intake of nutrients [blood] for the child was the blood in a straw but that was before the birth. The movie ends in a way to say there will be many more. Have not seen them all and probably would not read the books, as not what I choose to read but save for the screen.

Hell, I’d fake a seizure just to get out of the damn theater.

The actual delivery /birthing scene did not exist on camera..they tamed it for the targeted audience.

Some people have the idea that if it doesn't happen to them then it shouldn't happen to anyone.
We go to PBR bull riding events that are always started off with flashing lights. I know what is coming and I cover my eyes. I don't have seizures but the explosive lights make me feel very uncomfortable.

I was nauseated during the birthing scene. Not because of the lights or gore. First I have to believe men can turn into wolves. Second I have to suspend reality and accept there are vampires. But the total incompetence of the individuals that performed the caesarian while everyone is so enamored with the baby and the Mother's guts and uterus are exposed and no one is putting her back together was way too much of a stretch. You'd think a vampire that is a century of age would have seen someone do that surgery. The first part of the movie was soft porn for almost an hour too.... If I am going to have to sit through that long of foreplay I expect some T & A.

Ive only seen the first one when it came on TV. They showed the first one about 153 times on the flight to Al Udeid, Qatar.
Hamas was most likely behind it. Those bastards.

What is ‘twilight’? At college I see a lot of girls with twilight t-shirts, but I have no clue what it is.

I couldn’t help but notice you didn’t have the guts to reply to anyone who has the disorder or anyone who had family with the condition. Pu**y. Yes you. Sissy is too good a word for you.

I think you’re still not getting it.
It wasn’t blood, guts or gore that caused the seizure. It was the flashing on the screen at a certain rate that caused it.
