That was a totally completely different era with a total different set of facts.
That occurred that was *before* we were totally inundated upwards of 30 million illegals in the past 20 years.
It’s become so bad in the past decade or two, there is now a war on the Texas border, as these millions have completely choked off, subverted and undermined our entire system.

The problem may be many times worse now but it was on the radar then in CO. I recall well the influx of illegals into construction in the early ‘80s causing wages to remain low.
The great epic migration of illegal aliens, upwards of 20 million, came under 8 years of the Bush’s presidency, while he celebrated Cinco De Mayo up in the White House.

I would leave out your very first priority. I personally don’t think the law has the right to force private citizens to enforce the law.
Its pointless to argue about when it happened. The “when” is different for different parts of the country. southern california was inundated with illegals in the 70s. The corn belt wasn’t inundated until the 90s.
I would only expect the government to force employers to obey the law. Be that as it may; I would drop border security. If the other four were done there would be very few people crossing the border and the BP could easily handle those who did.

Just who the hell do you think employers are? THEY ARE PRIVATE CITIZENS. Its not an employer’s responsibility to ascertain which SS numbers are fake ans which are not.
The burden should be on the law to PROVE the employer knowingly hired an illegal alien...which is very nearly impossible to prove unless the employer admits to it.
My opinion is if you just do my top two, you will eliminate more than 50%% of illegal immigrants in the short term...but more importantly, you will eliminate a legal voting block which votes in favor of illegal immigration in the long term.

The waves of illegals really started in the mid to late 80s...The big push across the borders starting in the early 90s when an endless conga-line of tens of millions came across...It's was like a Boston marathon of millions...
It was relentless all the way up to what we have today.

I will give you this though, the productive majority of the Hispanic community absolutely detest the criminal elements now endangering the nation the productive Hispanics are working to uphold.
That's the problem. Laws needed to be changed 25 years ago, which should have *forced* employers to submit employee SS numbers for verification, among other things. The landscape is *littered* with corrupt, unscrupulous employers.
The corrupt employers have been one of the biggest problems all along.

I would put your fourth as first and immediately. Your fifth needs tempering though. The law can be a cruel mistress but need not be. Legislators tend to be too lazy to do the particulars which give law a touch of godly grace. I suggest that it is not in the best interest of the Republic nor the Republicans todeport the wage earner in a household with small children and a wife who is legal but not earning a wage. America wants productive, family oriented immigration and has a way to legitimize even the illegals on a case by case basis. I can prove that with my own cousin’s wife who started out as an illegal and is now a naturalized citizen and very productive American. I’m extremely proud of her.
