Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrichs statement that he would allow some longtime illegal immigrants to stay in the United States will haunt the former House speaker during the primaries, Rush Limbaugh says.
During the GOP debate Tuesday night, Gingrich said the United States should not automatically deport those living in the country illegally if they have established families and been here for 20 or 25 years. He acknowledged that that could allow millions of illegals to stay.

Makes sense. I hear there was a mass exodus from Alabama recently.
How many resources did it take to get them here from Mexico? Stop giving them government freebies (many of which should also be stopped for legal aliens and citizens!), use E-verify and SS# cross checking and many will self deport. That is proven to work. Illegals shift states in large numbers in response to state law changes and self deported in large numbers under Ike. That certainly won't solve the entire problem, but will make a significant dent. Making it a real border and deporting the worse actors - those caught breaking the law in additional ways - will make another dent, not just in the numbers but also in the public perception of the remaining problem.
As far as I’m concerned, Newt’s done. If he should get the nomination, I’ll vote for him, but I’ll never vote for him in the primary after this comment. His statements just open the door for total amnesty via gradualism. He’s just trying to slip amnesty by us.
Sucking at the public teat and while waving mexican flags has been going on since Bush and mclame tried to shove amnesty down our throats.
“Any form of amnesty that changes existing laws to allow ILLEGAL aliens to remain in the United States will harm American workers and students, and will eventually create a voting block that will derail future border and immigration enforcement efforts. “
How about this question: Even if the courts, magically, allow Illegals to remain here as non-citizens, what about their kids? Of course they’ll be citizens...and there will be tens of millions of them...and they will vote Dem, mostly.
Now, if the Illegals go home, they’re kids stay there and we get to keep our country.
Is that REALLY so hard for otherwise-conservative FReepers to understand...or do they simply not care whether they hand-off a “United States” to their grandstand or an “El Salvador” to their grandkids.
Too bad none of the candidates has adopted your commonsense idea.
That’s because we pay citizens welfare, as well. Don’t pay able bodied citizens one, thin dime in welfare money, and they’ll work.
Well...Here’s the incumbent, and the others left to right.
Obama.........Then............Romney...and...........Newt.
It’s a matter of degree.
Now If conservatives want to keep playing the Donner party and eating their own, expect to spend 4 more years in the mountains eating our own.
Obama had the nomination sewn up when operation chaos began. The point was to stretch it out further and further the divide within the party with a longer battle to getting enough delegates. It had zero impact on the outcome.
“Agreed. Rush hasn’t given a crap about this problem. As long as millions of illegals aren’t walking across the fairway, he’s ok with it.”
Welcome to Free Republic...and just about the time that the Perry bimbos were getting zotted.
Anyway, you OBVIOUSLY don’t listen much to Rush. He was on this starting in 2005, just as Bush-43 was getting started on AMNESTY. He helped to KILL IT. Before that it simply wasn’t a big national issue - it was HUGE in California for decades prior, but the rest of the country ignored it...and Rush is a national show.
By the way, I still listen to him, and he has more hundreds of millions of dollars than he’ll EVER need, so no, he could care less about his own wallet at this point.
We need to stop the anchor baby automatic citizenship. That is why lot of illegals come to the US to have their babies. That is one way to stop this raging immigration train.
I wish one of the candidates would point out the differences in immigration laws in Mexico vs. America. In Mexico you can’t run for any type of political office, you must get permission to marry a Mexican citizen, etc. You can’t get any benefits, have to pay for all medical bills, no government hand outs to illegals in their country.
No E-Verify, no workee
No E-Verify, no public assistance.
“Obama had the nomination sewn up when operation chaos began. The point was to stretch it out further and further the divide within the party with a longer battle to getting enough delegates. It had zero impact on the outcome.”
That is EXACTLY what happened, and I remember it like yesterday. The people attacking Rush now are doing it to simply help Romney or Obama.
Agreed. Rush hasn't given a crap about this problem. As long as millions of illegals aren't walking across the fairway, he's ok with it.
Absolutely and the reason we stopped listening to him about 7 years ago.
But perhaps some of the native-born low-skilled workers would be more inclined to accept this kind of work, if it were not so easy to live off of the rest of us. If there were tighter limits to who/how long can get some of the social benefits that just flow like water now, maybe some people WOULD work to feed themselves.
Conservatives do not or at least should not support amnesty.
There is no such thing as "The head of the Tea Party". If someone says they are, they are lying.
You are right. Its not going to happen and it won’t be millions of people.
To be precise Newt said that the american public (not him) could not stomach watching people pulled out of their homes. Can you just imagine a couple of days of the MSM televising the hysterical people being put on buses and sent to detention camps on their way to being deported. Those CNN cameras would be everywhere. Listening to Christianne Amanpour harp away about the evil right wing govt would be enough to make you sob.
What Newt did not say and he should have is that studies show that only about 20% of the illegals would come out of the shadows if offered amnesty/citizenship. Most illegal aliens have no desire to speak english or become US citizens. They are parasites, just here for the freebies and to make enough money to send home and then hopefully save up enough to go back and buy a house in Mexico.
So if we have 12 million illegals 20% is 2.4 million. Out of that group probably only about 70% or less would meet the tight criteria of speaking english, wanting to apply for citizenship, length of time in the US, paying taxes, ensconced in the community etc. So 1.68 million get to stay and then we enforce the laws so the rest will self deport or get deported if they get caught. Once you secure the border properly and take away the magnets like jobs, education, and healthcare they won’t want to come anyway.
I would rather do it that way than someday having the Democrats get a majority back and just pass blanket amnesty and no border security.
