Forgot to ping the college football auxiliaries.

Drat! I had the Irish, but I laid three and a half points. Fortunately, my bookie died in 1952.

Interesting (to me) is the evolution of language. When I first read “Irish End Unbeaten Season,” I thought Notre Dame had lost, thus “ending” their unbeaten season. Today, we would be more likely to see “Irish Complete Unbeaten Season.”
(I’m speaking from a grammatical point of view, not as a college football prognosticator).

Hey Homer; thanks for pointing out that the Hoosiers’ epic Bucket victory against the evil Toiletmakers was their only conference win.

If the purpose of this thread is to show how things don’t change over time, then it is spot on today; the Hoosiers don’t have a conference win this year, either, but still have to play for the Bucket on Saturday. Maybe history will repeat, but there is no way it will be 7-0, not with IU’s (lack of) defense this year.

The Old Oaken Bucket is a Hoosier state tradition, always played as the last game of the season. I’ve been to many, and the weather is a factor. I saw Antwaan Randle El defeat the Boilers in a torrential downpour. I saw Mark Herrmann defeat the Hoosiers on a balmy late season Indian Summer day. I’ve not seen one played in the snow, although my parents did.

My traitorous sons, who attend Purdue, are making noises about going to Bloomington Saturday. We just might do that.

When I first read “Irish End Unbeaten Season,” I thought Notre Dame had lost, thus “ending” their unbeaten season. I had the same feeling when I opened the paper to the sports page, and for a moment was ecstatic. Too bad the Trojans didn't end the Domer's win streak.

Kudos to the Trojans for rising to the occasion and giving the Domers a scare.

Next week, Washington will be in town. I dedicate this song, a Cab Calloway hit from a few years ago, to the Washington Huskies.

Fight on!
