Jimmy Fallon, the host of NBC's "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon," issued an apology Tuesday night to Republican Presidential contender Michele Bachmann after a snippet of a controversial song was performed by the show's band as she took the stage.
"I'm honored that @MicheleBachmann was on our show yesterday and I'm so sorry about the intro mess. I really hope she comes back," a Twitter message from Fallon's account said.
As Bachmann strode on to the NBC stage for Fallon's late-night show, the program's band, led by Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson, played a snippet of a 1985 Fishbone song called "Lyin' Ass Bitch."
The song begins with a distinctive "la la la la la la la la la" refrain -- the only words that were audible before Bachmann, smiling and waving to the audience, sat down for her interview.
The song itself, about a relationship gone wrong, isn't political, but it repeats the refrain "Lyin' Ass Bitch" about a dozen times.
Bachmann's campaign had no immediate comment, but the snub had some women criticizing the "Late Night" song choice.
Congresswoman Nita Lowey, D-N.Y., said in a statement that she shares little in common with Bachmann politically, but called the song "insulting" and "inappropriate."
"I do not share Michele Bachmann's politics, but she deserves to be treated with respect," the statement read. "No female politician - and no woman - should be subjected to sexist and offensive innuendo like she was last night."

“If he was truly sorry, he would fire Ahmir Thompson.”
#####
Not gonna happen, and the reason is dermal melanin content, rendering the juvenile race pig Thompson, a protected class.
How about firing the band for sexual harassment...oh yeah, not for Tina fey’s buddy.
Nice of Nita Lowey to chime in. I sure was wondering what she thought of this.
Maybe they should play that whenever the president shows up.
The left is full of vitriol. It is almost always awful to come across them expressing their opinions because they are so caustic as to be almost unbelievable. I find it hard to find words to express how very, very nasty they so often are. I can not imagine how their “communications” possibly draw people into their causes. The only thing I can think of is what it says about the people that they draw in.
Quel surprise. He should have just named his band “Holder’s People”. Honestly, that band is so bad i’m surprised anybody noticed.
Why isn’t he being hung from the highest tree and his entire family slain for this unforgivable sin?
good question
Not good enough.. Fallon is now dog dirt..
Also Craig whatshisname.. after the creep Letterman..
Craig Ferguson is conservative.
I’ve never seen him dis anybody too badly.
It was the Craig Ferguson show that superimposed a crosshair on a picture of president Bush..
Perhaps.
I’ve watched the show and find him, in regards to politics, I don’t find him targetting Conservatives in the same way that somebody like Bill Maher targets them.
He’s willing to hit both sides.
That was Craig KILBORN. Snipers Wanted.
I couldn’t see it being Craig Ferguson. Knowing what I do know about his leanings, I assumed that, within context, if Craig Ferguson had done something like that, it would have been fair game.
I’ve seen Jimmy Fallon’s show a couple of time and find him fairly apolitical in nature as well. I think he was just trying to be cheeky and didn’t think through the song that was chosen.
Jimmy Fallon is yet another member of a now decades-long history of ex-SNL cast members who somehow or other find gainful employment even though they failed the first time by just plain not being funny. But at least so far, Jimmy does have the honor and decency to not inflict himself upon us as a U.S Senator.
Craig wasn’t very happy with Limbaugh, when Rush made a few herky-jerky movements when describing Michael J. Fox’s PSA for stem cell research to help cure Parkinson’s.
Without context, that’s not very useful.
Was he unhappy about Rush criticizing Fox about embryonic stem cell research or was he bothered by Rush’s ridicule of Fox’s medical condition?
Ah, I haven’t watched that in 20 or so years so that explains why I’ve never (to my knowledge) seen him.
If she appears on the show again, maybe the band could show true contrition and play that old Nazareth song “Now You’re Messin’ With a Son of a &itch”
It is “who” they are ... why are people amazed, why is this a “headline”? If you don’t want to be called a bitch, stay off shows like that. Does she really think Fallon’s audience is going to change there mind and vote for her? They are LAUGHING at her. Dump ‘em.
