Having been to Amsterdam a couple of times in my life....I can attest that there are various people walking around in daylight and evening hours....totally doped up, and very capable of killing a guy for absolutely no reason. So running off to Europe and thinking you are safer than you were in Seattle....is the wrong way of thinking.
Condolences to his family.. this just seems so totally pointless.
Having been to Baltimore a couple of times in my life (and Amsterdam once, in 1975) I would have been less surprised...
According to Dutch media reports Major League outfielder Gregory Halman of the Seattle Mariners has been stabbed fatally at his home in Rotterdam, Netherlands on early Monday morning. He was only 24 years old. Apparently his brother Jason Halman was detained by the police. However the circumstances of Gregorys death, which was confirmed by the family, are still under investigation.
Gregory Halman was born on August 26, 1987 in Haarlem, Netherlands. After making his debut in the Dutch Hoofdklasse at the age of 16 he was signed as a non-drafted amateur free agent in 2004 by the Seattle Mariners. He quickly moved up through the Mariners farm system and reached the big leagues in 2010. He appeared in 44 MLB games for Seattle since then.
According to Ditch papers his brother Jason has been “apprehended.”

“Zijn twee jaar jongere broer Jason is na het incident door de politie aangehouden.”
“......younger brother Jason has been apprehended after the incident by the police force.”

Seattle had 19 murders in 2010 with a population of 560,000.
Rotterdam had 19 murders in 2010 with a population of 590,000.
You’re safer from murder in Rotterdam then Seattle according to the stats.
However, petty crime is a problem in Rotterdam.
Holy crap. Not a good couple of weeks for MLB players overseas.
Never heard of this poor bastard. RIP.
Condolences to Greg Halman’s family and friends.
Een dertienjarig meisje uit Soest en een veertienjarige Larense zijn zaterdagavond om tien voor half elf aangereden door een automobilist. De wagen die reed aan de Schrikslaan ging er vervolgens met gedoofde verlichting vandoor.
I’m not trying to say that the brother is guilty, just that there is no point speculating about crazed terrorists and such when the police seem to believe it may be a family problem.
His brother was arrested for the crime.
Just a family affair? Condolences to the family. It sounds like they have a lot on their plate right now.
I don’t mean to go all OWS, but it’s only news because this baseball player is part of the 1% that cannot be criticized for making money.
The story kind of brings to light the total hypocrisy of the OWS thing. Certain big earners are beloved while others, not so much.
Apparently he was Dutch, born and raised. So it's not crazy to spend one's offseason there.
Looks like a Bison Dele (former name Brian Williams-NBA) situation.
Godspeed to his family.
If one sibling makes a ton of money playing a game, it sometimes causes friction in the family, as other siblings are struggling to get by.
