I wore these in the 1970s during Nixon& Carter. These were out of fashion for years but are making a comeback. They are drab and dark. To me they reflect an awful economy for young people who wear these. Do the occupy Wall Street kids wear them? I would think so.

I STILL have my original-issue pea coat from 1959

Were they still issuing flat hats in ‘59? I was given one in ‘56 but it was really restricted where you could wear them.
Also, the bell bottom, patch pocket dungarees left the scene early 60’s - they were like hens teeth.
I remember calling the slit pocket dungarees ‘waves dungarees’ and you remember the ‘stigma’ that was back then...HA....
I’ve got one hanging in the closet. Got it as part of my Navy uniforms way back in Boot Camp (San Diego) in ‘63. I think it still has my 2nd Class Crow on the left sleeve.
Wasn’t able to attend Veteran’s Day ceremonies this year, but I did dig out my Dress Blues last year and wore them to church on Veteran’s Day services. I wore those Dress Blues for two reasons - 1. I’m very proud of that uniform and my service to this great nation and 2. I can still squeeze into it. I do have to admit that some may have thought my after shave had an unusual aroma. I call it “scent of cedar chest”.
At those church service, we had a choir made up of Veterans. Seventy-five Veterans on stage singing two songs during the two morning services.
Salute to my fellow Vets.........two
Did you ever see “The Last Detail” with Jack Nicholson? He gets into a fight with some Marines in the bathroom who are ribbing him about having to deal with the buttons on his pants. He says to the guy: “If I were a Marine, I wouldn’t have to undo 13 buttons to take a piss, I’d just take my hat off!” Hilarious, even though I didn’t get the joke until later.
They are showing up on t.v. shows like White Collar and Prime Suspect; both leads wear a fedora. Target has them. CVS has quite the collection. I wear wool berets all winter. If I had money I’d be a hat and shoe terror. ;-)

Yes
Jack Nicholson was very believable as a Sailor - would have been a lot more believable if he had been a BM2 with 4 hashmarks....RED, of course.
I still recall the bartender and Jack who, after arguing- the bartender threatened to call the Shore Patrol - Nicholson reached into his Peacoat and declared “I am the MF’n Shore Patrol” as he pulled out his .45..
BTW the fight was in the “Head”....thank you....<: <:
