I wore these in the 1970s during Nixon& Carter. These were out of fashion for years but are making a comeback. They are drab and dark. To me they reflect an awful economy for young people who wear these. Do the occupy Wall Street kids wear them? I would think so.

Don’t look bad to me..
Still have mine I wore during the Nixon years - a WWII original with the ruptured duck discharge patch on the sleeve.
I’ve always liked them. I got mine at the military surplus store about 15 years ago.
Pea coats have never been out of style. They are like 501 jeans and canvas sneakers; always “in style.”
We called them Pea Jackets and they were all wool in the 70s. I think calling them Pea Coats is a try to upgrade their social status. I last wore mine circa 1983 or so when Ronald Reagan took over. I looked around at people and could see it was so dated so I chucked it and it was all wool. Wish I had it now, old trusty reliable. I would be dressing in tune with the new Obama malaise/depression
A good one can pass for a topcoat in a pinch, so they serve two uses, casual and dress, if you’re pressed for money and need a coat. I suspect that’s behind the popularity, then and now.
Classic button style all wool coats never go out of style.
My 23 yo son has been wanting one....guess we will make a trip to a surplus store....I didn’t know he was a fashion kinda guy
How bad can the “depression” be if people are paying those prices, plus shipping?
I had a red one that I wore for years, but I gave it away about 5 years ago because it rarely got cold enough here to need it. “Let him who has two coats share with him who has none.”
Being a Paul Weller stylecouncilor I suppose you would know
Late 40s/50s ya could buy em for about 3$ in any Army/Navy store...real warm in that New England weather—swabbies were still wearing them too...
My son was wearing one 4 years ago. Style, not price is the issue.
Love Pea Jackets. Like the classic M65 army coat. Hard to find real M65s anymore. Most are civilian cheapos.
Love the Bible quote.
:-)
They’re not selling in large numbers because people are too poor to buy something better; they’re selling because they’re wildly in fashion. They’re throwbacks to an earlier time, yes, which fits in with the traditionalist/preppy style now very popular with young people. The point is to buy things that represent timeless, classic style that hasn’t changed in the last 50 to 75 years. Or before.
I used to read NME all the time.... in my youth in my Pea Jacket
Now if only classic hats would make a comeback..
I bought mine in college, not because I wanted to look hip, but because it kept out Chicago winter winds so well. The only statement I wanted to make was “I’m warm”!
A genuine Navy pea coat never goes out of style. Nothing says “Form follows function; trends are for twits” quite like it. (As opposed to the name brand crap usually worn by young hipsters, that looks like it was recreated from a photograph in a Chinese factory.)
