Even if they do take a job that is “beneath them,” it still likely won’t pay enough for them to be on their own.
During the recession...jobs are scarce, salaries are falling, and yet cost of living is rising.

How will they know if they don’t take it? If nothing else they can help daddy and mommy with the bills. Not everyone gets their dream job, sometimes even after a lifetime.
A man works an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay. A child says “well it isn’t enough so I won’t do anything.”

12% unemployment = 88% employment. I think “scarce” means “not what I wanted.” I hadn’t heard we were in an inflationary cycle.
It looks like the age of Manhood went from 17 when I was a kid to about 35 today.
