A woman was injured Wednesday when her car ran into an injured moose that had already been struck by another vehicle.
Phoebe Payne, 70, of Mount Vernon, was driving south on U.S. Route 201 when her 2005 Toyota Camry ran into a moose, according to a statement from Detective Lt. Carl Gottardi, with the Somerset County Sheriff's Office.
The car, which Payne swerved in an attempt to avoid the moose, ended up in a ditch. It was destroyed. Payne was taken by ambulance to the Jackman Region Health Center with non life-threatening injures.
The yearling moose was killed.
Before Payne's car hit the moose, a Chevrolet truck traveling south also hit it, according to the press release. The truck was driven by Arthur Pierce, of Gardiner, and was not damaged. Pierce was not injured.
Deputy Don Avery responded to the crash, which was reported at 4:57 p.m. He was assisted by U.S. Border Patrol and the West Forks and Jackman-Moose River fire departments.
A two vehicle moose once bit my sister.
Which one was the moose driving?
Did she give it a muffin ?
Hitting a moose, OTOH..is a whole different kettle of fish..
I heard Sarah Palin was behind the wheel but the Tea Party switched her out with this lady so she wouldn’t get in trouble ... /sarcasm
news just in, the vehicle was registered to one Boris Badenov, where-abouts unknown!
Edgar: “Now there’s something you don’t see every day Chauncey.”
Chauncey: “What’s that, Edgar?”
Edgar: “A two vehicle Moose crash.”
Chauncey: “Oh, I don’t know Edgar, it happens all the time on the Rocky and Bullwinkle Show.”
Were the moose carrying their photo ID driver’s licenses? Next, they’ll probably want to vote.
I’ve hunted deer up near Jackman, ME. Saw more moose in the woods than deer. Other thing I noticed was that the Savage Model 99 was the hunters’ favorite firearm.
Several other workers listed to what she said and went on with their work like nothing extraordinary had been spoken.
I couldn't stop staring at her! My mind was going "WHAT?!!?" I learned later that moose often do this and the locals don't even honk at them because they can easily damage a car. Moose have attitude apparently!

One of the funniest lines I ever heard was on the Rocky and Bullwinkle show.
A poor litle sap was talking to a ‘matchmaker’ about setting him up with a wife and she introduces him to this big fat screaming water buffalo of a woman..
And the little guy says “What’dja do? Pick her out of a buncha good ones?”
You have to watch out in Alaska. Moose and bears have the right of way. I was recently driving home up an unlit, narrow and winding two lane road through the woods and a moose strolled - I mean strolled - right in front of me, totally obvlivious. That was just before our major snowfall. If that happened today,I would have hit the moose or ended up in the ditch.
Whatdja do? Pick her out of a buncha good ones?
Good one!
