LOS ANGELES -- Comedian Eddie Murphy has withdrawn as host of the 84th annual Academy Awards following the resignation of the show's producer, Brett Ratner.
Ratner pulled out of the show Tuesday amid controversy over his use of the word 'fag' 'during a Q&A following a screening of his new movie, "Tower Heist" on Friday.
Today, Academy President Tom Sherak announced that Eddie Murphy has withdrawn as host.

I used to manage a bar/restaurant with a high number of gay employees.
When I worked there, if I heard the word “queer” or “fag” it was coming from a gay person.
Same with black folks, I never heard the word ni$$er from a white person.
Eddie was on the gay blacklist years ago for his use of the term “faggots” in his ‘Delirious’ video.
Ratner should have said ‘teabagger’ instead, and everyone would be cheering him.
I never use the word ‘fag’ but in the same context, having been an actor, I might say “Rehearsal is for sissies”,
which might cause the gay lobby a little confusion as they tried to figure out whether that word included them.
First the producer, then the host. Here’s an idea. Just CANCEL the whole thing.

I have in Jacksonville, Florida, Mississippi, Texas, Tennessee, and Alabama when I was visiting. It is horrible how people still use the word. One day people won’t use the word anymore.
I want to apologize for having said many homophobic things in the past and also wish to apologize for the many homophobic things I fully intend to say in the future.
I also wish to apologize for having been a white, heterosexual, conservative Christian male patriot in the past, and, as I fully intend to be one in the future, I apologize for that also.
I also want to apologize for any part any ancestors of mine may have had in founding America, directly, or indirectly, or having participated in any possible crusades.
Additionally, I’m sure some ancestor of mine was involved in the development of the bow and arrow, atl-atl and rifle, and I wish to apologize profusely for their participation in the start of the arms race.

I live in Arkansas and rarely hear the word said by a white person.
My best bud is from Chicago and said it is UNREAL how much the word ni$$er is used by his friends and family up North as opposed to those he associates with now that he lives in the South.
Probably couldn't use it as in "A queer thing happened to me dialing in to check Fido...", either.
I’ve heard it widely used by whites in Ohio and Indiana as well.
