Yep, jealousy can be motivating but envy can only be destructive. What we are seeing in society today is the precise reason that the church designated it as one of the 7 deadly sins!
I’d never made that connection between Envy and Jealous before. I’ve often been jealous of other people. But, to the best of my knowledge my feelings have been along the lines of “I wish I had a (car, plane, boat, house, vacation, etc), too”.
To the best of my knowledge, I don’t believe the thought of “I can’t have it - so you shouldn’t have it either” has ever crossed my mind. Even as a child.
