One possible way to tell if E-Cat is real or not is to look at funding. If he secured a loan from the U.S. DOE, then it is definitely a fraud. :)

The odd thing is that he's repeatedly refused funding offers in various forms and has self-funded at great distress to himself, if reports are to be believed. Yet this is all part of his 'plan' to bilk even more folks from their money, according to the hardened skeptics.
When an authoritative book is finally written on the ECAT saga up until now, it's going to be _fascinating_ reading. I can't wait to see how it ends! ;-)

Not necessarily a fraud. But it is certainly way too expensive to produce energy that competes with fossil fuel.
