Evan Smith on Bloggingheads.tv says, despite his fall in the polls, Rick Perry will likely best Mitt Romney in the contest for the GOP nomination.
Smith says Romney's support is "wide and shallow" while Perry's support is "narrow and deep," and he categorizes this election as a "narrow and deep" election.
He also says that, other than Jon Huntsman, there is no other candidate left in race whom, upon dropping out, would endorse Romney. He adds that the supporters of the other candidates would also not gravitate to Romney.
(h/t Andrew Sullivan)
Not to mention his polling numbers in the low to mid single digits. :)
Cain can actually beat Mitty in the midwest. I doubt Perry can pull that off.
Well Cain said he would be anyone but Perry’s VP and Newt, although I love the guy, is a kinda inside the beltway type.
That's what I was thinking, where's the "deep" part? Herman Cain is clearly the favorite of the majority of Tea Partiers.
Perry is at about 6% in some polls, in 5th place.
IF you'd rather NOT be pinged FReepmail me.
IF you'd like to be added FReepmail me. Thanks.

During the “heartless” debate Rick told conservatives......
Adios Mofo! .....
If anyone knows, it should be Smith.
However, I disagree that none of the other candidates would endorse Romney if they dropped out of the race. I do worry about that.
>Perry is obviously not concerned with citizenship or constitutional requirements for POTUS.<
.
Hell, we have an entire Congress and SCOTUS who are not concerned with this matter. Should Perry be the only one who cares?
The Constitution is only quoted and applied when there is a personal gain to be made.

Cain already said he would be Romney’s VP and said he would NOT be Perry’s VP.
And romney will select him for sure.
HUH? cain already said he would take the romney VP place.
that’s already an endorsement now.
Cain also endorsed Romney in 2008.

Looks like Palin will wait till the nomination to “endorse” the rep candidate.
Palin knows all the current candidates and their position....
So why is she waiting?
Why? He endorsed him in 2008, and said a few weeks ago he would be happy to be his VP choice. He said he has differences over "issues" with Perry, but none it seems with Romney.
“How is the citizenship of Obama the business of the governor of Texas? “
The citizenship of Obama is the business of every citizen of this country.
We want our Constitution followed.
We all have standing.
“Palin knows all the current candidates and their position....
So why is she waiting?”
Because she doesn’t have a strong opinion as to who is going to win, and she doesn’t want to alienate the winner.
I expect she will campaign hard for whoever the nominee is. She is a loyal Republican, and I like that about her.
Alot of this is less about principle and more about suckling at the power teet.
