Tony LaRussa (bullpen miscommunication) World Series

Posted on 10/24/2011 9:29:14 PM PDT by se_ohio_young_conservative

I like T.L. and I respect him.

But there is absolutely no excuse for not being in communication with your bullpen coach. geez..ill bet they do this via text message from now on. The bullpen phone is sooo 1979..

I can't believe what I just saw and im not quite sure how to explain it. lol

“this makes baseball look stupid”

Strange, I didn’t realize I was a nasty lib. Nor all my conservative friends and family here. Thanks for the enlightenment.

Guess I need to take off my “crackers for cain” sticker. Can’t have that now can we.

I like football, but what about this for an abomination.
22 guys line up ...they get about 30seconds per play,
the play lasts for only about 5 seconds ...you can’t
tackle a quarterback if he is “in the grasp”, you can’t hit
a ball receiver after he goes more than 5 yards down the
field(unless he has the ball). No one has to “TOUCH”, the
ball “DOWN” in the endzone to get a touchdown...they just
have to be in possession of the ball while any part of the
ball breaks the plane of the end zone...There is so much
substitution, someone can be a terrible athlete, but be
successful cuz they fill only one niche (i.e. jumbo defensive
or offensive linemen)....so baseball may have a slow pace
, but it ain’t totally useless, and it’s got lots of strategy,
and hinges on minuscule performance factors, and the only
guy trying to kill you is the pitcher, catcher, and guy
trying to stop a double or triple play.

P.S. why don’t they run the whole football game like a two
minute drill? Let’s find out how great these athletes really
are.

Tony LaRussa is a lawyer.........

I do not like to watch baseball, but if I did the Cards would be my favorite. They are NOT a bunch of nasty libs.

I have been a captive audience to baseball games all of my 70 years.

Or, how about this:

As the network returns from a 3-4 series of 30 second ads, some washed up player intones, “Welcome back. Its the Bills 24 and the Jets 17 at the half. Up next we return you to the studio for analysis of the first half, right after these.

Segue into another 3-4 series of 30 second ads.

Awwwww...I’m sorry your team is sitting out the series. Do you need a tissue or baby wipe?

“...Why not have a laptop in dugout and one in bullpen? :)...”

Why not an iPad? It would be another area for Apple to dominate the market.

I really do not care about sports, just that a person should be a man and not make excuses for when his team fails. We lost because we had no depth to our rotation plain and simple. Not because of slick balls, or evil track lighting.

ST. L. and the very odd La R. seem like a buncha nasty Libs.

<><><><><

I think it might be past time for you to step away from FR for a little while for your own good.

They are playing baseball. It’s not politics and it’s not political.

Go outside, breathe some fresh air. Take the dogs for a walk. Eat some sushi. Something, anything. You have lost perspective.

“I think it might be time for you to step away from FR”.
LOL

Sorry dmz, but I’m allowed my opinion.

I believe that it’s all connected: politics/values/ principles.
And whether or not, the Cards are libs or not, I don’t like them.
Wave that Texas flag high tomorrow night and Badger state greetings to Nolan, W and Laura! Thank you Mr. President for a job well done!
GO RANGERS! DO THE WASH!!

Didn’t see the Pres. and Laura last night....loved to see W throw out the first pitch on Sunday. He threw it wide and one of the TV commentators said to the other “Well, YOU tell him it was a passed ball”

LOL, Cs. I don’t think W and Laura were at the game last night but surely they won’t miss tomorrow night. It’s just comforting to see them there, looking happy and enjoying their lives. They deserve it after having to endure the legacy of 911.
And so little mention was made of their being there by the announcers, obviously on purpose and probably at the request of the Bushes. If Bam was in the audience, he’d of insisted on a 21 gun salute in his honor before the game.

From the "People's Cyclopedia of Base-Ball History and Lore"...

...The demise of the bullpen carts has intrigued and puzzled scores of baseball historians since the early 1980s...it is generally believed that these carts started falling out of favor in the late 1970s when economic pressures forced ballclubs to start cutting unnecessary costs.

Most teams had a fulltime bullpen cart driver on staff earning the annual equivalent of $45,000 per year (in 1990 dollars) and the carts themselves were also costly to maintain.

Once a dumping ground for rookie pitchers or aging pitchers at the tail end of their careers, many relief pitchers became stars in the 1970s and many top pitchers preferred the bullpen to a spot on the starting rotation. As such, top relief pitchers preferred to slowly walk to the mound to thunderous applause as opposed to riding to the mound anonymously in a "funny car." This hastened the demise of the bullpen carts.

The death knell of bullpen carts is generally accepted to have been sounded in the season of 1982, where a relief pitcher of the New York Yankees was purportedly observed performing fellatio on an unidentified subject inside the bullpen cart between the 7th and 8th innings of a game with the Cleveland Indians. George Steinbrenner was reported to have shouted "Get that @$)#@ bullpen cart out of my ballpark!"

As of the mid 2000s, bullpen carts are occasionally spotted at memorabilia shows around the country...

Yes, baseball can be a very bizarre sport indeed.

I am loving this World Series. Two great teams, great managers, great people and great baseball. Thank God my beloved Red Sox and hated Yankees are sitting this one out.

And now that I think of it, if bullpen carts were still being used they may get a lot of mileage put on them from the constant change of pitchers. LaRussa brings in a reliever for one batter...then another for the next...then another for the next. Fans soon get dizzy from seeing the cart go back and forth, back and forth... :)
