A paratransit bus driver intentionally rammed a Hells Angels biker on Interstate 580, and then dragged him about a mile, killing him, a CHP spokesman said.
The biker, who has not been identified, was traveling eastbound on I-580 in San Leandro near Grand Avenue with a small group of Hells Angels members before 4 p.m. when an altercation began, said CHP Sgt. Trent Cross. After being hit, the motorcyclist and his bike were dragged for about a mile, said San Leandro police Lt. Greg Lemmon. Eventually, the biker was released from under the East Bay Paratransit bus, but the driver kept dragging the motorcycle, which was wedged underneath the front grill, until the vehicle stopped on the shoulder just east of the 150th Avenue onramp.
The Hells Angels biker was flown to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, where he was pronounced dead, Lemmon said.
The bus driver has been arrested, Lemmon said. Police are interviewing four witnesses who saw the incident.
"The preliminary information they are providing was that it wasn't an accident, it was an intentional ramming," Lemmon said.
All eastbound lanes were closed from Grand Avenue to 150th Avenue so police could conduct a homicide investigation over a large swath of freeway, Cross said. The lanes were expected to remain closed until 10 or 11 p.m., he said, and there were significant traffic delays in the area.
An East Bay Paratransit manager referred calls to First Transit, a contract agency that operates the bus. The First Transit representative did not return calls.
No passengers were on board the bus during the collision, said San Leandro police Sgt. Doug Calcagno. The paratransit bus provides door-to-door service for people unable to ride regular public transit because of disabilities.
It has been a tragic autumn for the Hells Angels motorcycle club.
San Jose chapter President Jeffrey "Jethro" Pettigrew was killed outside a Nevada casino last month. At his packed funeral Oct. 15, Steve Tausan, a 52-year-old Hells Angels enforcer and friend of Pettigrew's, was shot dead.
Also on Saturday, San Jose police served a search warrant at a Stockton house for 38-year-old Steven Ruiz, whom they say killed Tausan. After a lengthy standoff, police determined he was not in the house.
True enough. “Living” in general population will be just about as much “fun” for him as it was for Jeffrey Dahmer.
I suspect the bus driver will soon have a need for this type of service himself.
It’s part of pOs’s job plan.
Hells Angels is a criminal gang. I don’t need to know a murderer “personally” to know they aren’t good people.
So no, I don’t hang out with murderers, druggies, or rapists.
You’re argument is baloney.
Do you have a secret handshake?
What do you call a hundred hells angels thrown under the bus? A good start!
It's capitalized when it's part of the name of the company and not capitalized when it's a generic description. It's like if a taxi company was named "Bill's Taxi:" sometimes it'd be "the taxi driver" and sometimes it'd be "the Bill's Taxi driver."
No handshake, just a membership card.
I hope you don’t use the man on man open mouth kiss greeting that some of the gangs use.
Damn straight. While visiting NYC, we stayed at a guest house, located next door to the Hell’s Angels NYC clubhouse on East 2nd in the Village. Amazingly, in this ultra-concentrated neighborhood, there were 6 open parking spaces available for MC’s only.
Had the opportunity to chat with the “doorman” about the prime location of this 5-story “clubhouse” with move video surveillance than a bank. He said that early on, they got a “business manager” who convinced them to funnel their ill-gotten gains into real estate in many major cities (not only in the US, btw)as a means of laundering the cash, and providing comfort and solace to members who ‘putted’ in from being strung out ‘on the road’.
Dead man walking
It was a bus. How many wheels do they have?
It’s a wonder that the paratransit driver is even alive. That HA wasn’t riding by himself! There are some facts missing from this story. I read some pretty stupid comments here about motorcyclists, bicyclists and the humanity of outlaw motorcycle gang members. Some folks here need a reality check.
Exactly ... I'm a biker ... a LOT of Freepers are
Dead Man Walking.. He gets to Prison and he is Ass raped then Schanked.. End of Story.
And How do you know the Hells Angels guy is a dirtbag. They are not the old school Hells Angels.. I mean they are not like the idiots that started it. If so they would be all over the news.. This man was killed because of who he was.. Not what he did.
“Bikers arent all thugs.”
Your comment reminded me of an “ex” Hell’s Angel that I while working as a project manager on a large construction job in Charlotte, NC back in 1995. I was doing ministry work at night and found out that the old church we were ministering in was up from the corner of Trade and Tuckasegee where a Hell’s Angel bar used to be. My friend told me that they used to get drunk and shoot at the “Jesus Saves” sign that was on the roof at the time. He couldn’t believe that he was now saved and helping me to work on the building.
His life away from work was a literal hell, between family members staying in trouble, and the feds harassing him. I lost touch with him in 1997 and had no luck trying to find him until your post prompted me to try a “Bing” search on his name. It turns out that my friend stuck a knife in somebody in a biker bar in Rock Hill last May. Apparently he is still an active Hell’s Angel as he is listed on their website.
The funny thing was how my four year old daughter walked up to this fellow who was well over six feet tall, with a big belly, and patted that belly calling him her “Buddy Bill”. He had tears running down his face.
I am going to visit him in prison as soon as I find out where he is.
wrong.
How naive you are. You are right in a way. The "new" Hell's Angels are different, the have learned how to keep a low profile and have tried to clean up their image. They are, however, still drug runners, murderers and all around bad guys. Anyone who thinks differently have simply fallen for their PR campaign.
The main difference between real old school Angels and the new ones are the originals were all WWII vets who couldn't handle the peaceful life so created a gang and raised hell. The movie "The Wild Ones" was a movie based on the original Angels treeing Angels Camp, a town in Northern California not far from where I live now. Marlon Brando rode a Triumph 500cc Twin in that movie. Wish I had one today:)
