Another flip I caught Mitt on, was when he stated belief in free market solutions, yet still proposed that states try to outbid/lobby one another for nuclear waste storage.

I only saw the last hour and I couldn’t tell you who “won”, but here are my impressions.

Cain - I liked him going in and that didn’t change after tonight. He seems to take the job seriously, but not himself. “Happy Warrior” is a good description. Not sure about the 9-9-9 business yet, but then can he implement that if he gets elected? I don’t see how. I liked him from the start. I’ll probably have to settle for another choice, though.

Newt - Doesn’t seem like anyone on stage really sees him as a threat. He’s got the easiest time of it. He doesn’t get attacked and he doesn’t attack. He’s like a grandfather who just makes a good conservative comment here and there and tries to keep the grandkids from fighting. Makes him look wise when he does that. Hope he sticks around just to keep the rest of them focused on Obama instead of throwing rocks at each other. Didn’t work so good tonight, though.

Romney - I’m not really into Mitt because I’m not really sure how he stands on issues. Who does? Seems to have a presidential demeanor, for whatever that’s worth. The haircut makes him look a little uglier, a little less Ken-like. Good idea. He’s the establishment pick at this point, I think, because other than repealing Pelosi-Care he won’t change much and that’s what the establishment is looking for.

Perry - Just from a speaking standpoint, how did he ever get elected as governor? His immigration stance is too off-putting for me to even consider him. Heard he got off some zingers on Romney, but so what? I can see him needing a teleprompter too.

Paul - Lots of people love to hate him, but he brought up some good questions. His demeanor and delivery suggest that an ambulance should be available because he might keel over soon, but that’s not really his fault. His crusade against the Federal Reserve is getting annoying.

Bachman - Speaking of annoying...I liked her in the beginning, but her “Did you know that I’m a mom and have 24 kids?” schtick is old already. If I hear it again I might scream. Didn’t hear it tonight, thank God. Don’t know how she did in the first hour, but in the second hour each question prompted a campaign speech that didn’t answer the question. She’ll be gone soon. I’m hoping before the next debate.

Santorum - Not his fault, but I’d rather listen to fingernails on a blackboard than to his voice. Maybe he’d come across better on radio? He’ll be gone soon too and I won’t be sorry about it. He did make me laugh when he suggested that he could carry PA and so win the election. Didn’t a candidate years ago carry one state and lose the other 49? Funny stuff for me.

I think the only candidates that will change (or attempt to change) anything in DC is either Paul or Cain.

There is no constitutional requirement that the president and vp be from different states, only that one state’s electoral votes can not cast for men of the same state as the electorals themselves. So in this case GA’s electoral votes could not go to both unless one registers in a different state.

This would not matter in most cases but would have made Joe Liberman VP in 2000 had Cheney not re-registered in WY prior to election. Cheney would not have received Teaxas’ 32 electoral votes and no candidate would have had a majority thereby throwing the election for VP to the newly divided senate where the old VP Gore would have broken tie for his running mate.

The petty fight between Perry and Romney is getting annoying, and tonight Santorum joined the fray. None of the three sounded presidential. Cain could have answered some questions better. By now he should be well rehearsed defending 9-9-9 and have an answer for all the critical comments. He can't just keep saying go to my web site and see the plan for yourself and leave it at that. He didn't lose any ground though, but he needs to work with debate coaches and show improvement. Newt did well again. Loved the way he gave credit to Cain for at least having a plan. That was class.

Obama.

Newt won the debate. How can we ever get past his baggage? Newt has won every debate.

I though Romney lost. He seemed red-faced and irritated.

My son came in and asked who he was. He said he was snarling at the other candidates.

The one thing I noticed was that all the candidates except Cain and Newt had problem of coming up with solutions. The rest of them started their responses by stating “Like Herman said or As Newt said”

Agreed with Mr Larsen: I am on the Cain train, but Newt kicked serious butt

“Romney looked like plastic”

Oh yes. You nailed that description.

That was weird how he kept leaning over the podium.

I thought he was going to collapse there for a little while or just break up in little pieces and flake to the floor.

“Singapore watch” good one

Sorry for the late response. (I'm at work)

Good points you make FRiend. I see the American public for what they are. Just when they expect a low performance or showing from a candidate, they take strict notice when the candidate surprises them by not fitting the image they had, or the one they were told to expect.

This is a great advantage for Perry at the moment. I expect he will rise up again. There is plenty of time and Perry is an old hand at this kind of thing. How else would Cain, who was nearly done, come back within mere hours?

One thing I am glad about and that is, the debate stage is no longer the big issue from here on out. The real campaign season has officially begun and Perry made it count when he most needed it.

—doesnt it seem like there are too many debates, the campaign season is too long and this is easy to get tired of.—

Yeah. I haven’t seen one yet. I just come here for the synopsis and try to get a few take away’s. It can be challenging though, because a lot (but not all) of the reviews here clearly come from very biased observers. Some do seem to get past their bias though.

And my interest, honestly, is in who is perceived as electable. Heck, they could all beat Obama. The real question is, who could beat whoever ends up being the Democratic candidate? It certainly will NOT be Obama.

Its well worth watching the entire series from the beginning, so you can properly appreciate everything that is going on this season....

One of the better shows on TV these days...

Newt was forced by Romney to fess up to an unconstitutional position —

supporting the individual mandate for health insurance

Big score for Romney.

Romney and Cain won
