Gov. Mark Dayton says he will call a special legislative session for a vote on a Vikings stadium bill even if there is not a specific proposal tied to one of several proposed sites.
The Democratic governor met Monday with legislative leaders to discuss the team's bid for a new, partially-taxpayer funded stadium. Dayton set a deadline of Wednesday, Nov. 23 for a special session, and says his only requirement to call it is the Legislature's four caucus leaders must agree to limit the agenda to the stadium issue.
Dayton says he'll work in the coming weeks toward a specific proposal tied to proposed sites in Ramsey County and Minneapolis, but says he needs support from lawmakers. Leaders of the Legislature's Republican majorities were reluctant to pledge strong support for a new stadium.

We are being held hostage by a millionaire owner who is unwilling to use his own money to build a new stadium. Instead, he wants the taxpayers of this state (including Ramsey County) to pay for it.
My line of thinking has always been "If building this stadium were such a good idea, Wilf would be willing to pay for it himself - or at the minimum, would be able to readily find investors".
It's time to call your legislator! Let's not be nice about it. I tried being nice back during the Twins stadium debacle in 2006 and it didn't work.
Tell your legislator "Look, our state is having severe budget issues. This IS NOT a priority. If you vote for this stadium, I will not vote for you nor will I assist you in your re-election bid".
Let's put the heat on our GOP legislators. Tell them "We sent you here. We can send you back home too".

Dayton is a crooked thug. Spend at all costs!
Ask the owners to give up team to the Public as are The Green Bay Packers. Watch them run to them thar hills then.
The Vikings need a new stadium. In Los Angeles. ;)
“(Governor) Dayton Willing to Call Special Session For Vikings Stadium Vote”
...and we’re still waiting for Governor Perry to call a Special Session to pass a bill to outlaw Sanctuary Cities.
The scumbag Dayton wouldn’t call a special session to keep the state government running, but he would call one for this?
I’ll be he will NOT call for a statewide vote on a new taxation for any stadium (as they are supposed to do)
I don’t know if this is the last thing for which taxpayers should be paying, but it’s awfully close.
“...and were still waiting for Governor Perry to call a Special Session to pass a bill to outlaw Sanctuary Cities.”
Why is it that every thread I walk into, no matter what the topic, these Perry-bashers have to come in and try to hijack it. He’s at 2% in the polls! What are you people so afraid of?
The Packers will use the VicQueens as a doormat next Sunday!
GO PACK GO!
Good luck with that. Unfortunately, idiot NFL fans are convinced (or at least act convinced) that publicly-financed stadiums can be justified by the economic activity they supposedly generate. They will even insist that businesses locate in a city because of the presence of an NFL team.
There are virtually no politicians brave enough to stand up to them. A city may be broke, rife with corruption and its infrastructure crumbling, but lose the NFL team and you are out of there.
In response to the referendum, the Vikings pleaded that they wanted to be treated “just like the Twins.” Okay.
The Twins never took a penny of state general fund money, whereas the Vikings want $300 million even though the state coffers are dry.
I look forward to the Vikings announcing that they are no longer seeking state general fund monies.
Second, the Twins successfully got a local sales tax increase of .15%.
The Vikings want a .5% local sales tax increase.
I look forward to the Vikings slashing the local sales tax increase they seek by .35%.
There. Now you’re just like the Twins.

It was a hanging curve ball when I saw the words “special session” ...couldn’t resist. LOL.
I totally agree, this NFL thing has a hold over people that makes them do strange things. My fall weekends are much better now that devote minimal financial and emotional resources to this organization, but I digress. Taxpayer funding to subsidize wealthy team owners, talk about crony capitalism.
The Twins blew the argument that if you want a good product on the field you have to build them a new stadium. Twins second year in Sparkling New Stadium - 63, 99
Gopher Football too.
I have a dumb question...what is wrong with the Metrodome?
When they built that, they said it would last forever.
I’m not dead yet, so I don’t think we’re there yet.
Can’t we just get new drapes and carpet?
1 and 5 ?
and they want a new stadium
on the taxpayers dime?
Let ‘em move..
at least the TWinkies have not one but Two WS trophies in their case..
