I remember back in the 60’s they found a barrel of rifles packed in grease that were from the civil war.

I remember most were still in shooting condition when cleaned up.

Wow, that’s an oldie! Some I completely lost from postings prior to about 2003. Anybody have a copy of The Sailboat Escape Pod Option?

The original won't open but an IXQUICK search found the update for me. A search on 'The Sailboat Escape Pod Option' found a link to a FReeper's links page (last link on the page) but it won't open either. I have a faint memory of reading that article.

So many old threads are gone and only produce "No such file (give_legacy_article)" when the old URL is used. I don't know if we will ever see those threads again.

Are they forever gone, John?

[Moron alert] Some biased, lazy reporting from ARL.now.com:

The FBI worked the scene in the 1000 block of Patrick Henry Drive well into the evening. Agents canvassed the neighborhood near a wooden spot. A photo posted on the website ARLnow.com shows a member of the bomb squad removing what looks to be a box with the butt of an assault style weapon sticking out.

“It's quite a shock especially for this neighborhood,” said resident Karl Kieffer.

A construction crew working on expanding I-66 made the discovery. When Arlington County realized the workers had unearthed a gun and PVC pipes filled with metal, they called in federal authorities.

“Somebody was making pipe bombs,” speculates resident Tom Adams.

Swanson middle school nearby was locked down briefly until investigators determined no explosives were present. Agents spent the bulk of the day trying to determine whether anything else is buried in this area. Investigators also asked residents whether any military personnel live nearby.

While the investigation continues the people in this neighborhood hope no more weapons or pipes are found here. “I can't even imagine any of my neighbors even owning a gun,” said Kieffer.

Near a what? Near the author's head?

It is my personal opinion that the buried items are connected to a crime and were buried by a perp so they would not have to be destroyed to prevent tracing back to the crime and the perp. Putting them where highway work could uncover them is not smart enough to be patriot stashing ...

Over the summer, our local Nazi-cops, stuffed notes in neighbors doors on our street, asking residents if they have any info about a neighbor, who is applying for a pistol permit and if he *should not have one*, giving contact names and numbers at the police station.

This $h!t is commonplace here.

It is pretty dumb but mayb the lamo used it as a waypoint.

Either way I could have thought of better ways of disposing of this stuff.

If it’s a crime: Davy’s Locker.

If it’s a prep: Toss it over a bridge into brush or walk off into a forested area with dense brush and toss into a ravine before the weather changes and then hike in to retrieve.

Or you could...Aw Heck, what do I know? I lost all my cordless long distance drills years ago in a heliboard accident @15,000 feet.

I never recovered the financial loss and gave up.

And when the feral democrats start raiding neighborhood, it is the ones who own the guns to whom the sheeple will run begging for protection. Some may even be in their neighborhoods.

Don’t you like how they automatically assume a crime had been committed?

Was this on private or public property?

If it was on private property, what is the crime?

Shouldn’t you have the right to store your property in any way you see fit?

That’s a little bit different than the gun parts my friend used to dig up when I lived in Arlington.

His house was near the site of one of the forts that ringed Washington during the Civil War and he dug up all sorts of materiel, especially Minnie balls, buckles, and buttons.
