Well whaddya know: Netflix changes it's mind about splitting
my wife's email | 10/10/11 | Netflix

Posted on 10/10/2011 11:07:24 AM PDT by hoagy62

My wife just received the following email...

Dear xxxxxxx,

It is clear that for many of our members two websites would make things more difficult, so we are going to keep Netflix as one place to go for streaming and DVDs.

This means no change: one website, one account, one password…in other words, no Qwikster.

While the July price change was necessary, we are now done with price changes.

The email goes on to advertise what neat things they now offer, etc. etc.

Looks like the feedback from the general public caused someone high up in the ranks at Netflix to go "Oopsie!" and reverse their idiotic move.

It seems someone was listening....

Confuse the issue? B/c Netflix customers are incapable of simple arithmetic? Where are you getting this analysis from?

Netflix F’ed up and are admiting it. Also I can count and know that running 2 SEPERATE websites and businesses will cost them MORE.

That is some hard-hitting analysis. Impeccable logic, to be sure.

I know that the problem originates with licensing rights; but I’m sure it could have been handled SO much better.
by treating them right and offering a great alternative.

The original letter basically says, “Hey (now that we’ve practically destroyed the competition) we’re doing this huge change - we are splitting your service into two parts in a month, and each will cost as much as the original service! We know you like us, and we are going to keep on doing what we do, ask us if you have questions! Thanks! Bye!”

I mean, really.

They went into hypershock when they saw how many subscribers were either canceling their membership or going with streaming only.

Earlier today I changed my plan to streaming only. I got an email confirmation, and two minutes later I got the mass email announcement about not splitting. It happened so fast, at first I thought they were communicating to me individually to convince me to stay with the big plan... Anyways, it wasn't anger over the split that prompted me to change my service; it occurred to me that it's been many months since I've ordered a DVD, probably only ordering a grand total of three this year, so I'm just not getting my money's worth on the DVD plan.

This wasn’t over the price change. This was over them splitting up the Instant and DVD queues so you had to manage two websites, put in your movie ratings twice, and you wouldn’t be able to see what was on instant while browsing in the DVDs and vice versa. As long as I’m paying two separate bills, I might as well go with Blockbuster and Amazon instead of Netflix and “Qwikster”.

I have over 2000 DVDs in my movie library, I really don’t need to order any from Netflix. If they are brand new and were really good movies I will buy it, or more likely watch it on demand.
