I'm not sure it is a retreat: most of the general public was not as fired up about her Presidency as the hard core conservative base.

What if she can help flip the Senate and give us a large majority in the House, as WELL as the Presidency, without risking becoming a rallying point for the left by running for President?

I would've crawled over broken glass to vote for her as President.

But Reagan lost to Ford in '76.

Just judging by my wife’s reaction, I think that she’s lost a lot of clout and respect now. I think that in the minds of many people, her withdrawal has made her a joke. And those who still respect her, like me, are kind of angry that her decision took so long. I feel that I’ve simply wasted time on her. She is simply the girl who brings in the Gatorade to the team now. No, you don’t need the *title* that feeds one’s own ego, but you damn well need the authority to be able to right the ship.
