The Brits had an AA gun [3.3”?]that was at least the equal of the 88. The Germans used every one they could get their hands on as an anti-tank gun.

When the British Army politely inquired about doing the same [it required AT ammo to be made], they were told “No”. The 3.3 was made to shoot down aircraft, and that was what it would do. Goes a long way toward explaining the the mindset that let Rommel run rings around them.
