Javel Townsend said his two sons, ages 10 and 11, are crying and hollering in their sleep, calling out their beloved puppys name.
Thats because the Townsend family is grieving the loss of Altgeld, their shepherd/hound mix puppy. Townsend alleges a Round Lake Beach police officer shot and killed the dog earlier this week.
I guess police got fed up with him barking and shot him, Townsend said Thursday. I want to know why they had to shoot him.
Townsend moved into the 1600 block of Lotus Drive about a week before school started. As a new tenant, he was unaware of a hole in the fence enclosing his yard until Altgeld escaped Tuesday.
He heard gun shots around the time he realized Altgeld was missing. He has a second, older dog that did not escape the yard.

You first.
Neighbor: I don't think my dog would eat lima beans (after watching the neighbor's dog scarf down a plate)
Farmer: Hell, he wouldn't either... For a month.

My tomcats eat surprising things. Try to keep them away from onions, however. That’s particularly bad for kitties. Garlic is usually OK. It makes the litter box smell wonderful too.
"So, to shut up a dog, just shape your hand like a c and put it over the dogs mouth and say its name, deeply and slowly."
WTF part of reaching for a barking large dog's mouth do you not understand?
The part about maulings, losing fingers, or what?
Sure, little yappers, who cares, but you are actually advocating 'shaping my hand like a c' and putting it over the mouth of a dog that weighs more than me?
Get over it.

In my experience, nuking a litterbox from orbit makes it smell better.
Not much else helps.

The only person in our neighborhood who complained about my dogs barking, has a swimming pool filled with shrieking children all summer long. They’re so loud we cannot have a conversation on our backyard deck.
Do we complain? No.
Why? They are playing - it’s what children do.
It just so happens our dogs play and occasionally bark. And they let us know when anyone is near our property. Since we’ve been robbed in the past, it is a feeling of security to have a dog that lets you know when strangers are around.
Incidentally, he is the same person who nuisance calls the local public utility district to complain about the noise from natural gas turbines 8 miles away!
He’s (was) part hound, hounds BAY.
Shepards do bark, described as a puppy, also noted the pup BACKED AWAY before being shot.
Then the officers cited the owner for having a dangerous dog, some insane nerve on display here.
A dangerous hound? Give me a freakin break!
A barking dog, if it’s just barking, is not being aggressive.
And when you put your hand over the dog’s mouth, you are just putting it over, not shutting the mouth.
The dog understands, even if you don’t. :)
I'm not going to deal with a strange dog unless I can kick it between goal-posts. And those are small and rare.
I'm familiar with dogs just barking for the hell of it, and those that bark because they are left alone, way too long.
And dogs barking to get my arse up and going for a threat.
Heck, I wake up when the grandbaby cries about being hungry or needing changed.
And I like noisy grandbabies right up there with noisy dogs.
I won't approach a strange barking dog.
Well, and I don't change grandbabies diapers. Ever.
Period.

LOL, no spin in this story, none at all, man was to lazy to fix his fence, so fix the fence now and keep your dog in the yard, and get your dog its shots. And pay the fine.
Interesting. I am going to try it with one of ours. She is not a continual barker, but when she starts she won’t quit immediately when I tell her to.
Let me say here that I don't approve of shooting the pup.
And it was a pup.
And if I'm worried about a dog that has an owner, I tell the owner to take charge and 'fixt it'
Hounds do bay. Dogs do bark and bite.
Don't keep one in town.
That said, don't shoot dogs because you can.

I am sadly down to only one old Black & Tan hound, had to put the other down on 9/11/11 due to his getting a cancer.
I now live “in town”, but this old hound is no problem, nothing to chase here so she’s pretty quite.
If she was still a pup it might be more of an issue.
She is happy here and plays well with my young pit bull.
Mom’s Min-Pin thinks she rules them both.
Min-Pins are down in the kicking catagory, though.
Sorry for your loss. I read Kipling's "Power of the Dog" (Garm, a hostage) when I lose one or miss one.
There is sorrow enough in the natural way From men and women to fill our day; And when we are certain of sorrow in store, Why do we always arrange for more? Brothers and sisters, I bid you beware Of giving your heart to a dog to tear. Buy a pup and your money will buy Love unflinching that cannot lie-- Perfect passsion and worship fed By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head. Nevertheless it is hardly fair To risk your heart to a dog to tear.
I'm sappy enough without dwelling on that.
Never trust a poet, writer, or those that quote them.

I got that tip from a cable show, called the dog whisperer.
The host continually points out that dogs have a specific understanding of the world and, if you want to have the least amount of trouble with it, you gotta work with it and not against it.
I was referring to one’s own dog on that point.
The host continually points out that dogs have a specific understanding of the world and, if you want to have the least amount of trouble with it, you gotta work with it and not against it.And we wonder what the world is coming to.
You saw something on television.
You repeat it.
He's not getting paid for training dogs. He's getting paid for having an entertaining television show.
Which actually, may be the same thing.
This is just sad that folks with NO real-life experience think they know something because they saw it on TV.
/johnny
He’s a qualified dog trainer, who happens to have his own tv show.
Abd I’ve tried it out on my own dogs and it works.
But I know what you mean, certain politicians have had their own tv shows and they know crap.
