KNOXVILLE — A visiting law-enforcement officer from Maine reported that his gun and badge were stolen from his vehicle at a West Knox County apartment complex this week, according to authorities.
The officer, with Maine's Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, was attending a training session at the National Forensics Academy in Oak Ridge, according to the Knox County Sheriff's Office.

I absolutely would never leave any of the guns (that I lost when they fell from that canoe) locked in my car while parked overnight at an apartment complex. Locked in your car in your own locked garage might be ok-—but this guy was not thinking clearly when he did that, IMO.
I'm going to lay odds that the car was a department vehicle as well (2009 Impala) and as such (with Maine plates) was targeted by someone who expected to find goodies.
WHAT WAS HE THINKING? I did it once, but luckily it was still there after going to a show. Never again after that. They got the radio.
I have occasionally had to leave a weapon in the car, but my car is so old and hum-drum that it probably doesn’t look like much would be inside to steal. Like the old story goes, “My car is so old, the only thing that doesn’t make noise is the horn”.
Fire the buffoon, charge him with:
unlawful transfer of a firearm
Reckless Endangerment involving a Firearm
and hold him Personally Liable for any and all injuries or losses as a result of his reckless disregard for the Public Safety.
Which is precisely what they would do to any us serf’s.
