You know, the last thing I would expect to follow my dog into the house is a BEAR. Guess you never know, do you? I hope the couple heals quickly... I can only imagine being attacked by such an animal is not pleasant.

Yeah, I’ll be looking behind them when they come in, don’t want a coyote or wolf either. I do look around before I let them out at night.

You know when the doggie door is too big when a bear follows your dog inside.

We only have to worry about bad guys coming in. I don’t know who has it worse: you with bears, coyotes or wolves or me: bad guys. I guess it’s a draw.

Check out what a black bear here in central Fla. did to my porch door a couple of weeks ago trying to get the cat food:

I kept opening and shutting the front door to scare him off and my cat was cornered behind some pots. He had the cat food bowl in his mouth and was backing out with it and dropped it and slowly walked off looking behind him at me as I banged some metal on the pet carrier to scare him. He returned in the middle of the night and shoved a heavy barracade aside that I put against the door and rooted through some things. Stomped a popcorn can like what they have at Christmas into a flat saucer. There was no popcorn in it so he was probably ticked. I had my security light on and it did not deter him at all. I am now keeping the cat food inside the house since he came the first time and pouring Pin Sol on the porch every night now and he has not returned.

Believe it or not, the bear was trying to eat the cat food but that does not mean he would not have hurt my cat after that if he was hungry. I felt safe opening and shutting the door slightly to make the bear nervous enough to leave and he did. My cat left for the day after that and was scared to come onto the porch when I first called her in the early evening.

It is sort of amazing that the bear at your place was nervous enough to leave after you made some noise (I am sure your presence standing there persuaded him to go as well). In the Pennsylvania case, it seems like the bear was much more aggressive (unless it got trapped inside and felt it was cornered?) Either way, I am glad that Miss Kitty is fine and eventually came home!
