SALT LAKE CITY, August 16, 2011Many on the Left claim to think that President Obama will be handily re-elected. Commentators who are reliable cheerleaders for Democrats, such as Lawrence ODonnell and Peter Beinart, have publicly declared their faith in the presidents re-election prospects.
Hillary Clinton said a few months ago that she was confident of Obamas re-election, while Nancy Pelosi guaranteed it.
Most Democrats, however, merely fall back on the standard prognostication that Obama will eke out a close election, like a coach telling his team that things arent that bad during halftime of a game in which they find themselves behind big.
Obama will lose re-election, and it wont be close.
First, look at the electoral map, which settled in favor of the president, 365 173 in 2008, an impressive win indeed.
But the map is different now. Obama will not win any state that John McCain won; its just not that kind of environment. Those states gained six votes in census-year reapportionment.
Then there are almost certain losses for the presidentstates (and their votes) he won last time that will not swing for a liberal democrat who now has a record to defend: Iowa (6), Ohio (18), Indiana (11), Virginia (13), North Carolina (15), Nevada (6), New Mexico (5), and Florida (29). Those states have 103 electoral votes between them.
Then there are the battlegrounds of Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, and Colorado.
Depending on the nominee and his or her running mate, you can throw in Massachusetts and New Jersey. Obama will win most of these states, but could lose one or two of them.
Change is coming. You can believe it.

YES!!!
HARDING/COOLIDGE 2012 - a century later, they're still right!!!
please everybody....what if it is close?...
...and worse, what happens if Obama wins??....
...I have been around for a long time, and if there is one thing that has been pointed out to me time after time is that NOTHING is a dead ass cinch except that God does not change and the sun always rises in the east.
If God abandons us completely in '12, there will be no living with Obama. If you think that he is an arrogant and insufferable lout now, you ain't seen nothing if he wins again...
...and honestly, I have a cynical view of the "one man one vote" tradition that the US has adopted over the last 150 or so years.
Everybody here knows that we are currently blessed with a welfare population of "fellow Americans", about 50% of which pay no income tax at all....and indeed, most get a check because they are so "poor". There are millions and millions of these people who refuse to work, whose vote count the same as those of us who work....and WILL use their vote every time for the politician who promises them the most stuff.
...no, friends, Obama demise is not a done deal..
...all people who think that FREEDOM is more than nobody stopping them from going to the clubs, or sitting on their ass watching Opra, or maybe going fishing in the local lake.....
...had better not fail to go vote in Nov '12 and vote for anyone except obama. Everybody who thinks Obama needs replaced and does not go vote for one reason or other....is a vote for Obama....you can bet that the welfare class will be out en masse....
As for me and my family...the only thing that could keep me from voting against Obama is that I am in the middle of a heart attack or stroke....
I think you are an observant old SOB. I am just an old SOB.
I hope whoever is our candidate is not assuming the status quo because obama can pull that rug out from under them at any time.
Nothing is guaranteed.
But this election has the same “feeling” of the Carter trouncing.
The only way we lose this election is if we defeat OURSELVES.
I agree. Overconfidence is a killer.
We have to fight this evil and we also have to work to keep Romney from getting the nomination.
“The downside: Well probably get Romney as President, who will then go on the destroy Conservative Republican prospects for the next 10 years.”
At least with Romney there would be another 10 years. ;)
Sorry to be a downer, but the "moderates" can completely change their minds in the last 72 hours before an election. You can count on only one thing when it comes to the non-ideological "folks" that Ted Baxter loves so much: they're badly informed, and they're stupid.
He’ll win against anyone who triggers a third party candidacy, which narrows the field considerably.
Me, too. I feel your pain. Every day.
With only Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, and New Hampshire, the GOP candidate wins. That’s all it will take.
Think again. The Dems are already playing the race card. That doesn't stop me from supporting Cain, though.
“Think again. The Dems are already playing the race card. That doesn’t stop me from supporting Cain, though.”
Except it cannot stick...given Cain’s background. Of course the Dems have to try anything and everything...they have no choice.
Whatever you guys are smoking, I’d love to have some. As of now, the only Republican who beats Obama is “Generic”. Sorry to burst your bubble.
Agreed. However, there will be more people voting this time who sat on their hands during the discouraging John McCain debacle.
Fear the third party candidate. Soros and the rest of the big money left wing will try to energize an ego-driven RINO (like Jon Huntsman (or even The Donald) to try for it.
Good. But let’s not get complacent.
Sadly,I do to.
