Inspired by the ugliness of the new Jane's Addiction album, The Great Escape Artist, we here at List Of The Day (ok, just me and a bunch of friends with great suggestions) compiled a bunch of lists of album covers that are, in the technical sense, awful.
The list below is one where real record companies were involved and artists who sold actual records were aware that the albums would go into the stores looking like this.
Fact is, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of terrible album covers. A web-search suggests that 90 percent of them come from religious artists who believe that competent artwork is akin to committing the sin of vanity.
Enjoy these album covers that dare you to enjoy the music held within its confines.

Hesus marimba! That kills me. LOL!
A classic album by Charlie and Ira Louvin. Charlie died a couple of months ago.
The story on the cover is this— they did it themselves! Ira made a wooden cutout, painted large satan and pitchfork, stood it up in a pile of tires at a dumpyard. Then they poured gas along the base of a bunch of tires and set them on fire. Dressed in white preacher suits.
The tire pile really caught fire and they took photos at a certain point standing in front, with a flash unit and time lapse exposure. The real danger was that the back of their cotton pant legs began to smoulder in the heavy radiant heat and Ira’s caught fire— and had to be put out.
But... Satan IS real.. no doubt and the album cuts are exceptional and historic.
The sickest ever album cover was by a group called the scorpions. If you search google images it will probably show up....if you post it here you should be banned for doing so! :-(
That version of Amorica don’t look like mine.
Also, what the heck is wrong with the Dylan cover?!
Freegards
I attended a conference on Satanism in music. They had hundreds of albums of music dedicated to Satan. Those were the sickest album covers. Ever. They scared even me. And I don’t scare very easily.
