I know it stinks to have libs cross-over to push McCain during the primaries, but is it any different to stack the deck in a straw poll? (can straw polls e stacked?) I admit to not knowing how a straw poll is conducted but i read where Rick Perry had paid for several hundred people's breakfasts but it did him no good. Are meals a part of a straw poll?are there speeches? Carnival rides? Free parking? Coat checks? Herman Cain seems to be a decent fellow but is he being chosen the right way?
I don’t think a straw poll determines anything other than one candidate’s popularity at any given moment.
Cain had outstanding performances at the debate previous to this and I think it stuck in folks minds...he impressed me.
A few weeks ago I had a conversation with a very liberal friend...she’s a dyed in the wool Dem for many years with family who are Democratic State lawmakers.
We talked about the Republican debates, and she had watched all of them, and her remark to me was that she was impressed with Cain. I asked her why and she said his answers were clear and made sense and he didn’t seem like the normal politician with his finger to the wind..trying to always say the right thing.
Yes, I was disgusted to see that Mittzy won the so-called straw poll in Michigan. Hey, they didn’t ask me.
I am VERY tired of getting stuck with the elitist/Democrat’s choice.
The messages at the debate and straw poll were basically the same, but they came from vastly different messengers.
The people who are being dismissive of Herman Cain, or counting him out because they are looking at the current polls, should keep in mind that at this time four years ago, most people were wondering whether it would be Fred Thompson or Rudy that would take on Hillary.
Now that Trump has gotten people to start thinking that maybe we need someone who understands the economy and job creation, a lot of people will vote for Herman Cain who wouldnt have before.
Herman has the right positions on everything important, without some of the HUGE baggage that most of the politicians have.
And being so open about his WHOLE life will endear him to a lot of people who may still be stinging from getting the wool pulled over their eyes by the teleprompter reader.
His positive intensity score has been the highest every week, until the week Rick Perry announced, and Perry got a little bump - then Herman was back on top the next.
I expect that he will be back on top of that one soon, as more people find out about about Perrys Hispanic pandering.
Closer look at Perry = less support.
Closer look at Herman = more support.
Right now Perry is the shiny new penny, but people are going to start taking a closer look at him.
As people start looking at the other way of looking at the two man race, the Positive Intensivity scores on Gallup, Herman is the only one who really has it all.
Remember, talk is cheap for politicians at election time.
No. Because she will wait it out like she has been doing. She has said before that she won’t run if she feels that someone represents her in the race (as a conservative). It was just a hunch.
Like I said before, there is a long way to go and anything can happen. Imagine if Palin won FL with the same percentages. People would be shouting that to death. Cain won, and won by a lot. Let the process work. If He doesn’t gain support, He will faulter. If he does, He won’t. Don’t act like this isn’t important, because if Palin would have polled the same way, people would be screaming for joy and bemoaning all the people who detracted from the win.
It’s a win. Treat it as such.
Why is Perry being written about as though his campaign is on the ropes?
Do you think Perry’s campaign isn’t on the ropes?
“Is it ok to let a few hundred people determine who the Republican candidate is?”
Is it ok to let the establishment and the media choose who the Republican candidate is? (It’s got to be Perry or Romney!)
I just believe that Cain is the more solid conservative candidate and I like him better as a person.
The reason I’ve chosen to seriously support Cain after the FSP was that I was part of the ‘but he can’t get elected’ problem. Once I saw that he had a shot, I heard the arguments about creating a self-perpetuating prophecy with my bad attitude and decided to make a commitment.
I firmly believe that the ‘he can’t get elected’ attitude is what gives us RINOS in election after election.
I’ve already promised myself that I’d never hold my nose again - now I’ve found someone who I believe in and I’m not going to settle for anything less.
I never believed in Perry. He’s crossed conservative lines too many times for my comfort.
I'd like to see primaries in all states held on the same day, and only people registered for a particular party able to vote in that party's primary. Seems to me that would save us all a lot of grief.
Don't worry so much [there'll be plenty of time for that next year].
Actually the Iowa poll is open to anyone who buys a ticket. so it should not be considered influential at all. FLA straw poll is actual GOP activists so it cannot be spammed by non GOP voters bused in by campaigns.
YES!!!!!!A Thousand times YES!!!!
Because Perry himself made a big deal about it. He should of kept his mouth shut.

Yes, that is a very good point. Really should have regional primaries rotating which region goes first every 4 years. The current stystem is stupid.
Actually the reason Perry is in trouble is because his campaign is so knee jerk arrogant and unthinkingly stupid they think anyone who criticizes him is "the enemy.
Odd, that is exactly the SAME tactic the Leftist propaganda bots have been trying to to use against Conservatives for decades. When Conservatives see someone supposedly on our side using the same tactics, it makes us wonder what they are trying to hide.
Remarkable moronic campaign tactics for anyone to scream abuse at people then turn around and ask those same people you are abusing to vote for your chosen candidate.
Don’t worry boys. The lib media is well on it’s way to picking the GOP stooge they know will lose to this commie prick! So just lie back, close your eyes and enjoy it! Sarcasm off!
Some straw polls (like Iowa) are bussed in. Some (like Michigan) the voters or more often the candidates have to buy tickets to vote.
There are a few, like Florida, who have several days of candidates campaigning and things like Perry’s breakfast (they all do it), but the voters are delegates.
Straw polls like other polls can be stacked (esp internet polls), however Florida is much closer to a real vote.
Because it is. Last Wednesday, I would have voted for Perry (albeit grudgingly), by Saturday I was relieved and overjoyed Cain won. And I’m by far not the only one, either in my town or here on FR
Talked to a friend this morning who is from Texas who had dealings with Perry and they said he is not what this country needs at all.

Exactly. I was a naysayer because I liked Cain but was worried about no traction, Florida can change that and I’m not holding my nose and voting for a RINO. I’m backing Cain no matter what. The more I read, the more I like him.
