DENVER -- In a case reminiscent of the 1989 film Weekend at Bernies, prosecutors say two men went for a night on the town with their friend dead in the backseat of their car.
Robert Young, 43, and Mark Rubinson, 25, are charged with abusing a corpse, identity theft and criminal impersonation in connection with the case, which occurred on the night of Aug. 27.
Its an unusual case. Its a very sad case, said Denver District Attorneys Office spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough. The charges allege that these two young men put their buddy into the car...and basically went out on the town with his credit cards.
According to the arresting documents, Young found his friend, 43-year-old Jeffery Jarrett, unresponsive at his home in the 1800 block of S. Forest St.
Instead of calling 911, detectives say the pair placed Jarrett in the backseat of Rubinsons SUV and went for a ride.
Their first stop was at Teddy Ts, a bar and grill at E. Evans Ave. and S. Monaco Pkwy, where investigators say the suspects used Jarretts credit card to pay for drinks.
Later in the evening, the two went to eat at Sams No. 3, with Jarrett still in the backseat.
According to police, Young and Rubinson eventually took Jarrett back home and put him in bed and then went back out for more fun on the town.
Using Jarretts credit card, police say they bought food and drinks at a Viva Burrito and filled up Rubinsons car with gas.
Their next stop was Shotgun Willies, a popular strip club at on Colorado Blvd. in Glendale, where police say they withdrew approximately $400 dollars from an ATM and stayed until closing time.

DANG!
Saw the mug shots. Reminded me of an old friend of mine who unknowingly wrote a song for these guys many years ago. The title was: “Cigarettes, Beer And A Real Low IQ”.
Weekends at bernie!
Oh, and my band played at Teddy’s T’s recently. Strange little vibe to that place.
My buds and I always go out partying with a dead friend in the back seat. Dude brings us luck every damn time. Chicks dig ‘im!
only surprise is that they didn’t go to Shotgun Willies first. Musta been real hungry.
Did anyone catch the new Shotgun Willey’s special at the end of the story?
People are shooting one another, invading homes, car jacking and they get off scott free.
Some good buddies take their dead friend out for a night on the town and it’s a major offense.
I hope when my number is up I go out for a night out he town. Actually, I’m ready for one now.
No cover for corpses after 7 PM.
Maybe Jarrett was smiling up above when his friends were taking him for one last party but to take him home then go to the strip club is wrong.
That stinks.(Literally).

Think of it as a wake on wheels!
Yeesh, with friends like these...
Maybe they thought Jarret might be having a conversation with St. Peter and the strip club could be bad timing? ;-)
As long as they didn't kill me. That's a disqualifier. Although I can't really enforce it, and they'll know it.
