Carla Bruni showed her chic baby bump off to the world this weekend as she took a stroll in the gardens of the Elysee Palace in Paris.
One little girl seemed transfixed by the French First Lady's bump, which she'd covered in a stylish black dress and winter coat.
Carla, who is due to give birth in October, greeted crowds on her walk at the palace, which was part of France's Day of Patrimony, when all its private state buildings open to the public.
The new baby, Nicholas Sarkozy's fourth and Carla's second, will be the first born to a serving president during the complete history of the Fifth Republic, so the event will inevitably draw a lot of attention.
But Carla is determined to keep the newborn out of the public spotlight, saying on a recent television interview: 'You don't have a child to play to the gallery and my position as the wife of the head of state has made me even more defensive.
'I understand the media interest and I don't see any inconvenience in it for me or my husband, but when it concerns the children it is impossible.'

I’ll take the one wearing Christian Louboutin’s.
I agree on both counts.
It originated in the ghetto where they lacked education to use the word pregnant. Now it is making its way upwards and into general usage.
I don’t like it, either.
The photo of Letizia and Carla walking up the steps is real and not retouched. The Wookie with the Caboose & the apron was photoshopped in. Nice job!
Sarko’s two oldest sons with wife #2, Pierre & Jean are tall, blond, and very handsome. His third son, Louis, age 14, with wife #2 is cute.
There have been rumors that Carla and Sarko are expecting twins!
‘_______Caboose and the apron___________’
And I understand she really wore that (pizza tablecloth?) outfit ‘over there’, on one of her trips.
Just not in this situation - as you say, photo-shopped.
‘_________Laura Bush to be appropriately attired_________’
Agree.
I’m only sorry to see her wearing pants the majority of the time - dark outfits.
If it’s to possibly cover something medical, then I understand.
No, haven’t heard anything.
But she was walking up those same steps. And not at a much different date (within months?). So the size perspective is probably pretty close to being the same.
Moochelle-Antoinette sure is a double-wide compared to Carla & Letizia ;}
I hadn’t even thought about the dark pantsuits and covering up. Thanks for the headsup on that!
No way around it. This baby will win the International Most Beautiful Baby of the Year award!
Regal posture is everything...
