Carla Bruni showed her chic baby bump off to the world this weekend as she took a stroll in the gardens of the Elysee Palace in Paris.
One little girl seemed transfixed by the French First Lady's bump, which she'd covered in a stylish black dress and winter coat.
Carla, who is due to give birth in October, greeted crowds on her walk at the palace, which was part of France's Day of Patrimony, when all its private state buildings open to the public.
The new baby, Nicholas Sarkozy's fourth and Carla's second, will be the first born to a serving president during the complete history of the Fifth Republic, so the event will inevitably draw a lot of attention.
But Carla is determined to keep the newborn out of the public spotlight, saying on a recent television interview: 'You don't have a child to play to the gallery and my position as the wife of the head of state has made me even more defensive.
'I understand the media interest and I don't see any inconvenience in it for me or my husband, but when it concerns the children it is impossible.'

She is more gorgeous now than ever!
I’m sorry but she is hot! Mooch looks like yesterday’s trash next to her.
Thanks Cincinna.
I detest the term ‘baby bump’...
She is gorgeous and classy.
Ahhhhhh!
Thank you for adhering to published rules about Carla pics.
My eyes were starting to bleed from that shot of Michelle Antoinette.
Dayum!
That is like my worst nightmare!
/reminds skinny self to back off of the Ghiardielli dark chocolate, ~just in case~
LOL! Can we switch?
She’s gorgeous! How I miss Laura Bush (trying not to cry now).
Is that her duck face?
The first Mrs. Sarkozy cannot be happy about all this.
But then again, maybe he’s an a$$hole and she is happy to get rid of him.
She certainly has more class than Michelle - even though Carla allegedly slept with most of the rock stars of that time.
It's far, far, far less odious than "baby mama" and "baby daddy".
Laura Bush certainly brought grace and gentility to the White House. There is a lot to be said for a First Lady who is dignified and gracious, who loves her country and is proud of it.
In Carla’s case, her adopted country, since she was born in Italy, into a very old Italian family.
LOL Not a baby bump but a rumpy frump
I agree. But the term is from the article, not me.
