Obviously there is no logical reason for her unfavorables in the polls to be what they are. Did she do anything like let an intern give her oral sex or get involved in some disasterous scandal ? absolutely not. There is NOTHING on her. They have looked and looked and looked. Nobody has found a thing. She seems to be the kind of leader that the American people are wanting to represent them.
They do. I contend to you that her unfavoribles mean NOTHING. It is useless polling data and should have no impact on who wins the nomination in 2012. If she gets the nomination, she would win electoral votes based on national and global events (the economy, ect)
I believe the number of Americans who hate her with a passion is very very small. The unfavoribles you see in the polls are a result of some very shallow group think left over from the 2012. Nobody has seen Saraj Palin run her own national campaign. It would not take much at all to turn those numbers inside out.
What we see here is that the anti palin people in this country are just very loud. Conservatives hear them and for some reason think the high volume of their voice mean they have huge numbers. Even some here on FR get their information from people who hate them and then they are ignorant enough to toss it around like it is fact !
Right from the time she was announced as McCain's running mate, the mainstream liberal media feared Palin as another Ronald Reagan "game-changer" figure so they embarked on a campaign to "Dan Quayle" her.
They have succeeded in driving her negatives up by portraying her as a "not ready for prime time" floozy. Those SNL skits by Tina Fey were devastating. The majority of Americans continue to quote from that skit as though Palin herself said those words.
The second reason is that many Republicans do not like her either. When Palin was governor in Alaska, she went after corruption whether it was Democrats or Republicans. She is thus not a "team" player in their eyes. She is not one of the "good old boys club" in Republican circles.
That all said, I agree with you that her negatives are only an inch deep. Once she gets into the race and runs her campaign on her own terms, many Americans will see her for what she is - a citizen just like most of us who truly wants to advance the conservative cause and not just hold public office so that she can enrich herself through cronyism and power broking.
Now her negatives will always be high because she is a true conservative. Ronald Reagan always had hatred directed towards him by liberals because he was a real conservative who actually believed in what he said and acted accordingly.
do you have inside info ?
the nomination is not offically decided until.. heck.. the Republican National Convention. So you don’t know if she is running or not.
Btw, it wasn't the middle of her term. She served 2/3rds.
Really? Well if you want to get into speculation and disregard facts, can you show me were rank and file GOP voters ever jumped out on a limb to nominate someone like Palin? Goldwater might be the closest and that didn't turn out too well. GOP voters always choose the safe, easy choice every time. Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush, Dole, Bush, McLame. That is why Mittens and Perry are out front. They don't scare anyone.
Thanks se_ohio_young_conservative.
There's nothing wrong with her presentation- it's the lamestream media who are distorting it.
How in the hell did Tina Fey have influence over the electorate. Thats one challenge than Palin does have is pop culture,
but my lord, people are having a hard time putting food on their table now. this will be a different election. a 1932 or a 1980
“they have no connection with the truck driver from Michigan or the coal miner in PA. But she does !”
problem is, I’m from NY and I don’t think she will do very well here. And it has nothing to do with her positions. Turner won here *because* he’s a social conservative. But you have to know how to make the case for it.
There doesn't have to be a logical reason that you'd approve of for why voters view Palin extremely unfavorably.
I think Palin got very unfairly beat up in 2008. The media ripped her to shreds, exposed every weakness and otherwise sought to undermine her in every way imaginable.
Still, Palin had a way to recover from that. She could have kept her job as Governor, stayed out of the limelight, brushed up on all manner of issues she is not used to dealing with, given an occasional speech at non partisan events, etc. She needed to just go away for awhile, stay out of the spotlight, let time pass and come back stronger. Instead she chose to quit her gig as Governor, do silly RealityTV, hawk books, do hit and run appearances designed to grab attention away from actual candidates, and otherwise turned herself into what people view as a celebrity instead of a serious potential candidate. She's overexposed and people have Palin fatigue That is how she wrecked any chance she might have had to run a serious campaign in 2012. This is why I am left to assume she never had any intention to run in the first place.
Every once in awhile you get a JFK or Reagan type candidate who provides high risk..but also high reward because they connect with the folks.
ari, it will be decided by economic and global current events. thats where elections are decided. I don’t think it will matter what state you are in ..in 2012.
this looks like a 1980 or 1932 type of an election
She has to show that she understands the economy and global current events. Nobody wants Gov You betcha! as their next commander in chief.
Ingrained perceptions can’t be changed in a hurry. It takes time, money, and Palin needs to actual show the less than enthralled that she ISN’T those things.
So far, none of that has occurred.
there are no scandals, crimes or dirty laundry to us against her.
One thing you didn’t mention: When Palin went back up to Alaska after the election, to continue her job as governor, she DID keep a low profile. But the media kept tabloidizing her family, and headlining constant stories about her “unethicalness” (via those frivolous ethics lawsuits). She was being beaten into the ground by the constant media attacks at that time, too. And, she WAS definately keeping a low-profile then. Even Bristol!
After she left her office, it was THEN she tried to at least take personal charge of her media presentation. Whether or not things like the reality show and the series of speeches were the correct route to go is perfectly debateable, of course. But, I just wanted to point out, during her post-election time as governor, she definately did not seek out the limelight, and the media was relentless towards her, and her approval ratings were being crunched downward very rapidly. Had she stayed in office, all that would have continued.
She is now bashing GOP primary candidates like Rick Perry and smearing them without proof.
She has had her own reality TV show, her daughter was on a popular TV show, and the Palins bought a mansion in Scottsdale, AZ.
She supported Juan McLame and Carly Fiorina over more conservative candidates in GOP primaries.
She is a well-paid member of the media.
What amazes me is how some people seem to think she is a serious candidate who can win an election, and not just a celebrity who likes her name in the news.
I agree. I believe once Sarah starts her campaign and voters compare her side to side with the other candidates (even CC or Jeb if they run)that it will be obvious to most that she is the one needed at this time.
What amazes me is how clueless you PDS'ers are.
Rick Perry is too southern anyways. I can’t stand the guy and I hope she keeps trying to derail him.
