I just thank the Lord that my kids are conservatives!
Not enough mud. I have six dogs!
;<)
Oh. Trust me. Been there, done that .. but I love them still. (The kids)
And disheartening .. is putting it lightly. I’d no sooner think NOR say a derogatory word about the parents or grandparents.
It's the air of bewildered, frustrated, entitlement which annoys oldsters, I deem.
People of boomer days and the youngest GenXers had enough sense (not having been raised in the cocoon of totally dumbed-down schools and MTV or worse) knew that there are things out of the control of the individual, whether enemies, trends, natural disasters, or what not, which could derail one's plans, or that of one's generation.
That's just life.
Many of the youngsters (I suppose) have been told all their lives that they're special, and that the Red Sea would part just for them. While at the same time, the powers that be were carefully destroying all opportunities FOR the middle class via offshoring, downsizing, affirmative action, political correctness, wholesale importation of women into the workforce, illegal immigration, H1-B visas, exponential growth in taxes and regulation, and the aforementioned destruction of education (and the undermining of both the nuclear and extended family).
And NOW they have the nerve to look surprised!
The demographics of the US are shrinking: and a fractional reserve economy, based on margins, and indeed the entire governmental approach, is implicitly geared to the assumption of demographic growth.
Now that aging, abortion, and the attack on chastity and the family are taking their toll, nobody remembers what used to be, why it worked, or how to get us back there.
NO cheers, unfortunately.
Um, I worked in a Walmart distribution warehouse while getting my day trading business off the ground. When I started it took 1500 people to do 60 cases per manhour. Within a few years we were doing 125 cases per manhour with 500 people after a retrofit with new tech. My buddy says they are approaching 150 with 400 people and getting ready to retrofit again. It is just about all computerized anymore with very little handling and that isn’t the most modern warehouse.
Technology has absolutely changed getting a box of stuff delivered on time and where it needs to be on time to the point where you don’t need alot of skill at all, and knowing your way around a gameboy might actually be beneficial.
The rest...well you keep blowing your smoke up your own butt.
McDonald's...fired...me...because...I...whined...too...much.
Yep, the love doesn’t stop does it? No matter how goofy things get.
Incidentally, computerizing the pick and ship operation is only part of the game.

One can create algorithms to maximize efficiency for each pick trip based on the basket of goods to be selected; beyond that, optimizing *across* baskets, then modifying the layout of the warehouse, then modifying the layout of the warehouse for current and anticipated shipments are the name of the game.
It's analogous to doing Lagrangian dynamics within a warehouse but Eulerian dynamics between warehouses and the retail stores.
You know, since you wanted math and science.
Cheers!
So you do understand that technology helps but it doesn’t actually do the job.
Maybe there is hope for you yet.
Now, quit fixating on my butt it is getting a little disgusting.
Why would I want to work for a librarian with delusions of grandeur? By the time you got done telling me how much authority you had and dotting my i’s I could make a couple of grand in the market.
Pass.
1500 people to 400 people in a few years and more than twice the cases per hour? I’d say technology is doing a whole lot more of the job. Is the math too hard?
Happy Hunting!
We’re hanging on because we can’t afford to retire. We spent it all on our kids.
Son, were I a librarian I sure as hell wouldn’t hire you if for no other reason than your lack of skills with the English language.
I also wouldn’t hire a whiny little feller like you.
Day late and a dollar short. It’s all YOUR fault. (read the thread)
the dewey decimal system would be a part of the interview I would believe.
At this rate the stuff will just magically appear where it needs to be then?
Oh wait, this isn't a video game is it? It is a real world where people have to work hard and some of them get dirty.
I can see why you work for yourself. Everywhere you ever worked there was a person in authority telling you to quit whining and get your lazy self to work.
They probably told you to leave your gameboy at home too.
Liberal babyboomers have destroyed this nation; fortunately the next is the vengeance of the boomers parents.
America really is a brilliant system of government.
The lil’ feller would probably just call that old school and try to organize the books by size or color!
So are you saying that it’s similar to correctly calculating the future values of the delta, gamma and vega of an option over the distance of the move while subtracting the theta over the given time of the move, while making sure skew and kurtosis doesn’t screw you on the implied volatility to correctly estimate it’s value at the end of the move?
Which doesn’t including predicting a turn of the market and the ultimate length of the move, because that isn’t quantifiable and is really a matter of weighting two opposing forces, their relationship and their ultimate momentum to create the move, at the same time you’re estimating the value of the option of the and it’s likely value of the end of that move?
Gee, I can do math too.
The difference between you guys and me is that I’m not threatened by younger people, I embrace them and teach them what I know and tell them to build on it.
Because the older I get, the more I realize the less I know, and that with every tick of the clock I become more of a relic each and every day. Anybody truly in the game feels the same clock ticking.
Nice chatting with you boys, I needed some light work before bed to get my mind sharp for the market open tomorrow. Thanks for being my pawns.
