I have two of those. One cost $5.00 ten years ago, the other was left to me by a deceased relative.

A few years ago, I got a Brownie Starflash, an exact duplicate of the one my Mom & Dad gave me for my 6th or 7th birthday. It’s still in the original box with the original Eveready batteries (white with red/blue lettering), a few flashbulbs, and a very old roll of 127 film.

Old cameras are neat!

My dad had done photography and film/print processing since the 30’s; photochemical and etching tech were tools of his trade.

When I was in grade school, I got interested in his photo gear, which included an old folding camera (maybe 2-1/4x3/14) and a Kodak 35mm much like the one you picture.

The thing I wanted most for my 10th birthday was a camera of my own, and I knew which model: An Ansco Readyflash.

Well, I got it, and took some pics with it. But I started gravitating to dad’s Argus C3 35mm camera, and soon switched over to that.

By then, we were processing film and making enlargments in the downstairs bathroom.

Those first two cameras are decades gone by now, but I have found exact replacements for them on eBay in excellent condition, and they now sit atop a bookcase.

A few years went by. Dad passed on, and we traded the Argus in for a more modern Minolta, an A5. A few years after that, while in college, my brother and I went together on our first SLR, a Canon.

After generations of Canon and Olympus film gear, I went digital in 2005 with a Canon Digital Rebel. When I got my EOS 50D, I gave the Rebel to my brother at Christmas.

I have film for the Ansco and the Argus; now I have to get off my butt and shoot some scenes, maybe over at Cocoa Beach. Maybe Lake Eola. We’ll see.
