Article addresses some of the realities of teaching today. As a former teacher because of a similar story to the one addressed in the article, I agree with the article's assertion that the problems with getting quality teachers are not resolved simply with paying them more.

If parents would care about their children and at least ensure they did their homework, we would have a better system. No child left behind was supposed to give that kick in the butt that President Bush wanted so much. It did not work so well. Parents are 100 percent of the problem.

All I can say is, “God bless the teachers who stick around for many years and never cave in to the parents or the admin and continue to do what needs to be done.” I see what kind of kids are running around the neighborhoods today and I can’t help but wonder what is going to happen to America.

I asked a guy once; What does it say about priorities when people are willing to pay a mechanic two to three times per hour to work on a car, what they are willing to pay a teacher to teach a classroom full of children?

The response was that the mechanic is a professional who has to study and work to stay current with new automotive technology.

American schools will continue to decline as more 3rd world immigrants - legal and illegal - continue to be allowed to come into this nation and get free schools for their kids (and citizenship for illegal aliens) in such massive numbers. There is no possile way to assimilate this unprecedented wave of humanity into our schools at this rate. And the change in policy from mandating children learn English first, to accomodating their native languages and “cultures” has devastated those kids ability to succeed. The best laid plans of liberals have brought this nation’s school system to its knees.

Clark says some teachers hand out A grades so parents won’t bother them

And he wants parents to trust the rascals?

“I feel so sorry for administrators and teachers these days whose hands are completely tied...We walk on eggshells in a watered-down education system where teachers lack the courage to be honest and speak their minds.”

I have no sympathy for administrators. In Tucson, they are the ones pushing to teach kids how we all ought to belong to Mexico, and how the evil white man wakes up daily trying to figure out another way of keeping his boot on the neck of poor Mexicans.

What teachers really want to tell parents

No, you can't come in and observe the class, we are showing the States Children how gay sex works and you with your outdated idea of morality might object. And give us more money.

Of course I took the $200.00 worth of school supplies you sent for your child and put them in the "sharing closet". We have got to start early teaching the little ones that nothing belongs to them and they should give everything to the state. And give us more money.

No, naturally your child doesn't understand mathematics. The system that I use is designed to confuse not teach. And give us more money.

No, I am not going to do anything about your child being beat up by other kids. What are you complaining about? We had a gang bang during a school assembly and did nothing. You think your case is worse? And give us more money.

Yes, I did teach your child to sing songs in praise of our great leader Obama. And give us more money.

Your child had the audacity to question the totally slanted view of history I was indoctrinating the class with. Put him on Ritalin or I will call CPS and have you charged with child abuse. And give us more money.

Your son is being given "special attention" by a gay classmate. He is objecting? Obviously he is a homophobe. And give us more money.

Yes, we took the children out of class and used them at a political rally. What business is it of yours? And give us more money.

No, I am not a teacher hater. All of these things happened. So forgive me if I don't trust teachers. There are reasons. And before you protest that they aren't all like that I know they aren't. But the majority are willing to look the other way and go along with it or these things would not be happening. Only a small minority are willing to buck the system. And they pay for it.

What I think is interesting about this article, which gets lost in the bashing of public schools, is that in this case, this is the FOUNDER of a private school talking about parents PAYING big money to attend said school.

If any group of parents would be willing to listen to an administrator and teachers, one would think it would be the administrator and teachers they were paying big money to teach their child.

Here's the entire problem dissected once and for all.

1. Teachers are the same as any other human being and their occupation reflects that; some good, some bad; most mediocre.

2. Teachers are only a part of the problem and part of the solution. The unspoken elephant is bad parents and parenting.

3. The educational system is increasingly a government concern and reflects that in all ways at all levels.

4. Curriculum is increasing antithetical to families, faith and Americanism.

Given the bent of human nature, the decline in the family and culture and the greed for power in an increasingly remote and tyrannical government all bets seem off for the revitalization and improvement of public (er, government) schools.

Unless the system is freed from the negative forces of all four major elements, education will only continue its decline.

Suggested solutions are many, varied and largely fanciful unless all four components are addressed. So, current alternative options are the best solutions for concerned parents unwilling to gamble on ‘new and improved’ public education claims.

That leaves charter schools (still controlled by the system), private and parochial schools (as long as they are sound and watched carefully) and, of course, homeschooling.

For my money, homeschooing is where it's at. Of course, it's subject to compromise from lazy, stupid parents the same as public schools. It's also vulnerable to poor curriculum, pedagogy and the usual plagues of the family social system. On the whole, though, HS’ers are dedicated, rigorous and effective (just like good teachers). The big difference is that HS’ers don't need to cope with other lousy parents, slacker colleagues, bad curriculum or government control to degrade their efforts.

In short. HS’ers are, by definition, actively involved in their children's education. They have the best of all worlds and that's exactly what good teachers wish they had in the PS classrooms - a free hand.

When something better comes along, I'll look it over, kick the tires and let somebody else’s kids test drive it.
