This doesnt look like the Giants year - Arizona has been too tough and the loss of the bearded one didnt help.Your references to the present day are lost on me. I've gotten to the point where I know more about baseball 70 years ago than now. A while back I listened to an interview on NPR with a catcher who recently retired after 18 years in the bigs. I think it was Houston and MIlwaukee. He now consults for the Padres or something like that. So it was an interesting interview and at the end I finally caught his name. I had never heard of him. Back in my serious fan days that would have been inconceivable.

I love baseball, especially when my team's in the mix. But there's something about baseball, especially in days gone by. Something that looks, smells, and feels like a lost wholesomeness and innocence. Field of Dreams still brings a tear to my eye.
