The UK has been doing experiments putting human brain cells into the apes.
If we received some good information from them it was all worth while to do.

Not sure I’d say they were hugging in excitement...look more like fear/nervousness and looking for comfort.

It would no doubt have ruined the experiment to give the chimps any outdoor time whatsoever. Fortunately for our worst offenders in prison, they get one hour a day of outside-the-cell rec time. These chimps no doubt preferred the strictures of their cages to playing in the sun for even an hour a day.
Or do you not believe chimps are capable of play? Are they just mindless/brainless robots who prefer lab cages to exercising in a larger space with more activities?
Where I live some dogs are kept for their entire lifetime on short chains. There is no law against it. I guess if the owners infected them with AIDS and studied the result, it would be a good life for the dogs. Actually, dogs can and do enjoy playtime. Are you suggesting that chimps are stupider than dogs?
If not, why can these experiments not take place with a modicum of care for the animals? Seriously, would allowing them an outdoor playpen ruin the scientific value of the work?
Really? It would??? Okay, then; I guess keeping the chimps locked inside like high security prisoners was justified; my bad.
