I read about this earlier. This is hideous.
How terribly tragic.

Sitter dies and lands on Long Island infant- 1-month-old smothered in freak accident
NY Post ^ | 9/3/11 | KIERAN CROWLEY
A morbidly obese Long Island baby sitter accidentally smothered to death a month-old infant when she collapsed and died on the couch where the child was lying, authorities said yesterday.
Teresa Coffey, who was 5-foot-6 and over 200 pounds, was found on top of little Michael Baldwin III on Thursday at around 9:30 p.m. by the boy’s horrified father, and both were pronounced dead at a hospital near the Greenlawn home.
“The woman was described as extremely heavy,” said Detective Lt. Gerard Pelkofsky. “She was extremely large-breasted . . . Because of the amount of flesh, it could have caused the baby to suffocate.”
You gotta be kidding me with that news anchor and reporter. They come across as a skit on Saturday Night Live. Heck, the reporter even sounds just like Lorraine Newman. And I gotta be honest, this is a horrible tragedy, but something just doesn’t sound right.
Where was the mother?
yah. Morbidly obese; and no doubt on Food Stamps and/or disability because of it.
Even sadder: it seems that they were told they could never get pregnant, Baldwin’s wife got pregnant anyway, but it was a very difficult pregnancy. It seems she is still in the hospital or otherwise having health problems. Baldwin left the baby with this sitter, who was a friend of his wife, because he was called in to work on an emergency basis. Clearly this is not a case in which career-obsessed neglectful parents abandoned their child to the care of a sitter regularly. These people were doing everything right—marriage first, mom isn’t working, dad is, enough money. God’s ways are not our ways and we can’t understand why He sometimes allows such things to take place. What a horror! Their sole comfort in their grief is that they’ll see their baby in heaven, but it’s a long, sad, hard time to wait ‘til then. I pray their marriage survives this.
Wow! So sorry for this family. Sounds like no one is to blame—just a horrible accident.
